  1. 1. Coxsackievirus B3 Infection and Host Defence Responses Change the Metabolism of PBDE

    Författare :Magnus Lundgren; Nils-Gunnar Ilbäck; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coxsackievirus; environmental pollutants; PBDE; cytokines; chemokines; metabolism; infection; tissue distribution; toxicology; virology; immunology; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Virology; Virologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : It has been suggested that the rising amounts of chemicals in the environment may affect host resistance and increase susceptibility to infections. Studies have also shown that infections can change the toxicity of pollutants. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Arsenic Influences Virus Replication in Experimental Coxsackievirus B3 Infection

    Författare :Ylva Molin; Nils-Gunnar Ilbäck; Eva Hjelm; Göran Friman; Jonas Blomberg; Gunnar Nordberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coxsackievirus B3; trace elements; arsenic; selenium; virology; IFN-γ; NFκB; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Trace elements are essential for the host defence against infections, and during common infections, the balance of trace elements is changed in serum and tissues. Supplementation with selenium (Se), an essential trace element, is known to decrease the severity of coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection in mice. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metabolomic features and viral infections in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Niklas Nyström; Jonas Halfvarson; Kjell Alving; Yigael Finkel; Ignacio Catalan Serra; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammatory bowel disease; IBD; Crohn s disease; ulcerative colitis; pediatric; metabolomics; lipidomics; enterovirus; coxsackievirus; Pediatrik; Pediatrics; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Up to 25% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease have a paediatric onset (PIBD). The pathophysiological processes underlying PIBD are complex and largely unknown.  Aims: To investigate a hypothesized role for human enterovirus B (HEV-B) in Crohn’s disease (CD) (I). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of Enterovirus Infection on Innate Immunity and Beta Cell Function in Human Islets of Langerhans

    Författare :Oskar Skog; Gun Frisk; Olle Korsgren; Åke Lernmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Enterovirus; Coxsackievirus; Innate immunity; Pancreatic islets; Islet function; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on enteroviral effects on human pancreatic islets. Most knowledge of viral effects on host cells relies on studies of immortalized cell lines or animal models. The islets represent a fundamentally different and less well studied cellular host. Also, enterovirus has been implicated in the etiology of type 1 diabetes (T1D). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Reverse genetic studies of Enterovirus replication

    Författare :Anna Sävneby; A. Michael Lindberg; Björn Andersson; Peter Gierow; Jonas Waldenström; Martin Ryan; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Enterovirus; picornavirus; coxsackievirus; echovirus; rhinovirus; reverse genetics; replication; translation; transfection; cassette vector.; Virology; Virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Enteroviruses belong to the Picornaviridae family and are small icosahedral viruses with RNA genomes of positive polarity, containing a single open reading frame. They mostly cause mild or asymptomatic infections, but also a wide array of diseases including: poliomyelitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, aseptic meningitis, myocarditis, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, hepatitis and respiratory diseases, ranging from severe infections to the common cold.
