  2. 2. Epidemiology and population structure of Campylobacter jejuni and related organisms in wild birds

    Författare :Jonas Waldenström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; epidemiology; Campylobacter lari; population structure; Helicobacter canadensis; Ecology; Parasitology human and animal ; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; Parasitologi människa och djur ; migration; Ekologi; wild birds; Sweden; Campylobacter jejuni;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most common causes to bacterial gastroenteritis in the industrialised world. Also other species of the Campylobacter genus give rise to human infections. C. jejuni occurs in many different animal hosts and can be isolated from water sources. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stopover Ecology of Mallards : Where, when and how to do what?

    Författare :Daniel Bengtsson; Jonas Waldenström; W. Michael Eichholtz; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Age characters; body condition; departure decision; effects of influenza A virus; habitat selection; mallard; movement; Ottenby Bird Observatory; stopover ecology; weather; wild birds; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is the most numerous and widespread duck in the northern hemisphere and a model species in ecology and harvest management. Migration is a crucial life stage for many birds and understanding the drivers of migration has important implications for conservation biology and assessment of animal population responses to global changes. 4. 4. Social below ground : Life-history and gut microbiome of Damaraland mole-rats

    Sammanfattning : Studying the consequences of variation in individual life-histories is vital for our understanding of the evolution of animal societies. In this thesis, I study the ecology and consequences of group living on growth, survival, reproduction, and the gut microbiome of the Damaraland mole-rat (Fukomys damarensis), a subterranean cooperatively breeding mammal. Sammanfattning : Influenza A virus (IAV) annually infects approximately 5–15 % of the human population, causing ~500,000 deaths globally. Novel IAVs have emerged and spread pandemically in the human population, but have over time established endemic circulation with reduced pathogenicity causing seasonal influenza. The natural reservoir of IAVs is wild waterfowl. LÄS MER
