6. Genetic Disequilibria and the Interpretation of Population Genetic Structure in Daphnia
Sammanfattning : Understanding the processes that shape the spatial distribution of genetic variation within species is central to the evolutionary study of diversification and demography. Neutral genetic variation reflects past demographic events as well as current demographic characteristics of populations, and the correct interpretation of genetic data requires that the relative impact of these forces can be identified. 7. Hybridisation between introduced brown hares and native mountain hares in Sweden
Sammanfattning : To investigate the extent and effect of hybridisation between wild sympatric populations of introduced brown hares (Lepus europaeus) and native mountain hares (L.timidus) in Sweden, the geographic distribution of genetic variation in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear DNA microsatellite markers were analysed within and between the two species and their presumed hybrids. 8. Targeting Infectious Disease : Structural and functional studies of proteins from two RNA viruses and Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Sammanfattning : The recent emergence of a number of new viral diseases as well as the re-emergence of tuberculosis (TB), indicate an urgent need for new drugs against viral and bacterial infections.Coronavirus nsp1 has been shown to induce suppression of host gene expression and interfere with host immune response. 9. Advancing Evolutionary Biology: Genomics, Bayesian Statistics, and Machine Learning
Sammanfattning : During the recent decades the field of evolutionary biology has entered the era of big data, which has transformed the field into an increasingly computational discipline. In this thesis I present novel computational method developments, including their application in empirical case studies. LÄS MER
10. Developmental phase transitions in Norway spruce : a molecular approach to identify regulatory mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Plant development proceeds through distinct phases that are controlled by complex networks of regulatory genetic circuits and fine-tuned by environmental and endogenous cues. Many of these regulatory networks have been unraveled in annual and perennial angiosperms, while they remain predominantly unknown in ecologically and economically important gymnosperm species such as the conifers.
