  1. 1. Seroepidemiology of vaccine-preventable and emerging RNA viruses in Rwanda

    Författare :Eric Seruyange; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Seroprevalence; measles virus; rubella virus; Zika virus; West Nile virus; chikungunya virus; tick-borne encephalitis virus; mosquitoes; linear epitopes; Rwanda; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Infectious diseases are a leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Rwanda diarrhea, lower respiratory and other common infections are linked to high mortality and morbidity. For children ... LÄS MER

  2. 2. Control of Quasi-Equivalence in Virus Capsids

    Författare :Charlotte Helgstrand; B. V. Venkataram Prasad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; crystallography; bacteriophage; virus; RNA; capsid; quasi-equivalence; assembly; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biotechnology; Molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Many T=3 plant and insect viruses use a molecular switch in form of order/disorder of a segment of the polypeptide chain to regulate the quasi-equivalent contacts. The structure of a mutant of the T=3 capsid of bacteriophage fr confirms that this virus and other members of the Leviviridae family lack a switch mechanism. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biology of a small RNA virus that infects Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Sajna Anand Sadanandan; Dan Hultmark; Francis Jiggins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nora virus; Drosophila melanogaster; virus biology; host-pathogen interaction; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Drosophila melanogaster has been extensively used as a model organism to study diverse facets of biology, including host-pathogen interactions and the basic biology of its pathogens. I have used the fruit fly as a model to study elementary aspects of Nora virus biology, such as the role of the different proteins encoded by the virus genome. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Influenza A Virus : Spatial analysis of influenza genome trafficking and the evolution of the neuraminidase protein

    Författare :Dan Dou; Robert Daniels; Martin Schwemmle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Influenza A virus; IAV; neuraminidase; NA; IAV genome trafficking; viral entry; viral replication; co-infection; antigenic drift; antigenic shift; NA assembly; transmembrane domain; evolution; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are a common infectious agent that seasonally circulates within the human population that causes mild to severe acute respiratory infections. The severity of the infection is often related to how the virus has evolved with respect to the pre-existing immunity in the population. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Targeting Infectious Disease : Structural and functional studies of proteins from two RNA viruses and Mycobacterium tuberculosis

    Författare :Anna M. Jansson; T. Alwyn Jones; Sherry L. Mowbray; E. Yvonne Jones; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The recent emergence of a number of new viral diseases as well as the re-emergence of tuberculosis (TB), indicate an urgent need for new drugs against viral and bacterial infections.Coronavirus nsp1 has been shown to induce suppression of host gene expression and interfere with host immune response.
