21. Birds as a Model for Comparative Genomic Studies
Sammanfattning : Comparative genomics provides a tool to investigate large biological datasets, i.e. genomic datasets. In my thesis I focused on inferring patterns of selection in coding and non-coding regions of avian genomes. LÄS MER
22. Painfully Energetic : A tale of two proteins potentially connected
Sammanfattning : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) is the first enzyme of the respiratory chain and is involved in energy conservation generating an electro-chemical gradient across a membrane. The enzyme can be divided into a membrane spanning domain and a hydrophilic domain, which protrudes from the membrane. LÄS MER
23. Prokaryotic respiratory supercomplexes : Studies of interactions between complexes III and IV
Sammanfattning : Respiratory processes for cellular energy conversion are carried out by the membrane-associated enzymes of the electron transfer chain (ETC). In recent years there has been emerging data showing that the members of the ETC organize into higher-level assemblies called supercomplexes (SCs) whose functional relevance is not yet fully understood. 24. Migration and quality of landlocked Atlantic salmon smolt : Implications for conservation and management
Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon Salmo salar has a complex life cycle, including long migrations and habitat shifts for both juveniles and adults. As such, salmon populations are vulnerable to habitat degradation and fragmentation along their migratory routes. LÄS MER
25. Genetic and Ecological Consequences of Fish Releases : With Focus on Supportive Breeding of Brown Trout Salmo trutta and Translocation of European Eel Anguilla anguilla
Sammanfattning : Although the practice of releasing fish into the wild is common in the management and conservation of fish populations, the success of release programmes and the potential harmful genetic and ecological effects that may follow are rarely considered. This thesis focuses on genetic and ecological consequences of fish releases, exemplified by supportive breeding of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and translocation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla).
