    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis, caused by the pathogenic bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is one of the most widespread and deadly infectious diseases today. Treatment of tuberculosis relies on antibiotics that were developed more than 50 years ago. These are now becoming ineffective due to the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains of the bacteria. Sammanfattning : Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative pathogen of tuberculosis, currently infects one-third of the world’s population, resulting in two million deaths annually. This clearly shows that tuberculosis is one of the most serious diseases of our times. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural Studies of Glutamine Synthetases – Towards the Development of Novel Antitubercular Agents

    Författare :Wojciech W. Krajewski; Sherry L. Mowbray; Torsten Unge; Thomas C. Terwilliger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamine synthetase (GS) plays an important role in nitrogen metabolism, where it catalyzes the ATP-dependent condensation of glutamate and ammonia to yield glutamine. Recent studies showed the importance of M. tuberculosis GS (MtGS) for growth and survival of the bacterium, and demonstrated its potential as a drug target. LÄS MER
