  1. 6. Fish in the coastal seascape : exploring ecological processes and connectivity for conservation of temperate fish communities

    Författare :Thomas Staveley; Martin Gullström; Mats Björk; Regina Lindborg; Emma Jackson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seascape ecology; landscape ecology; seagrass; marine habitats; fish; spatial analysis; connectivity; conservation; Sweden; temperate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The need to understand patterns and processes in the marine environment has never been so profound as today, particularly as anthropogenic pressures upon coastal regions are drastically affecting habitats and species across a vast range. One approach to further understand these patterns and processes is through the use of seascape ecology methods. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Indirect effects of river regulation : consequences for landbirds of reduced numbers of aquatic insects

    Författare :Darius Strasevicius; Björn Malmqvist; Tapio Eeva; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boreal region; Simuliidae; Leucocytozoon; pied flycatcher; aquatic insects; breeding success; blood parasites; bird communities; river regulation; impoundment; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstrakt: Jag har undersökt hur älvreglering påverkar mängden knott (Tvåvingar: Simuliidae) längs flera norrlandsälvar och vilka konsekvenser denna påverkan får för den landlevande fågelfaunan. Studien visar att utbyggnad av älvar har en negativ effekt på mängden knott. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Coral Reef Habitats and Fish Connectivity : Implications for coastal management and fishery

    Författare :Tove Lund Jörgensen; Michael Tedengren; Nick Graham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic disturbance; coral reef habitat; fish community; coastal ecosystems; conservation management; spatial ecology; seascape perspective; holistic approach; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs have one of the highest levels of biodiversity of all ecosystems in the world and are important for both human livelihood and food security throughout many tropical countries. However, due to increased anthropogenic pressure on marine ecosystems, especially during the last couple of decades, coral reefs have become critically over-fished, and many reefs are now in a degraded state and are facing additional future threats due to further over-exploitation, chemical pollution, sedimentation, and effects of climate change. 4. 9. Phytobenthic communities in the Baltic Sea - seasonal patterns in settlement and succession

    Författare :Susanne Qvarfordt; Hans Kautsky; Lena Kautsky; Hendrik Schubert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Succession; settlement; recruitment; phytobenthos; macroalgae; invertebrates; Baltic Sea; community; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seasonal changes in reproduction, recruitment, occurrence and growth of marine plant and animal species is a common phenomenon world-wide. This thesis investigates whether such seasonal changes could determine the succession in subtidal phytobenthic communities on free space in the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER

  5. 10. What are the effects of natural versus human-caused acidity on stream species diversity and ecosystem functioning?

    Författare :Zlatko Petrin; Björn Malmqvist; Steve J. Ormerod; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acid rain; aquatic insects; biodiversity; ecosystem function; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human activities have caused acidification of freshwater systems on a large scale resulting in reduced species diversity and ecological functioning in many lakes and streams. However, many naturally acidic freshwater systems have also been found, for instance in northern Sweden. LÄS MER
