  1. 1. Managing coastal eutrophication : Land-sea and hydroclimatic linkages with focus on the Baltic coastal system

    Författare :Guillaume Vigouroux; Georgia Destouni; Alice Newton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal eutrophication; land-coast-sea continuum; management; hydroclimatic change; research gaps; eutrophication modelling; temoporal trends; scoping review; Baltic Sea; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Eutrophication endangers coastal ecosystems all over the world and is most often associated with an increase in anthropogenic nutrient loads to coastal waters, which fuel the growth of algae and create a variety of environmental problems. This is also the case for the Baltic Sea where coastal waters may be affected by various land, coast-sea, and hydroclimatic drivers and feedbacks, over different scales, including the eutrophic open sea. 2. 2. Swedish seagrass ecosystems in a changing climate : Coastal connectivity and global change sensitivity

    Författare :Diana Perry; Martin Gullström; Jason Hall-Spencer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal seascape; shallow-water ecosystems; fish assemblages; connectivity; global change; climate change; multiple stressors; seagrass; Zostera marina; temperate region; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal shallow-water ecosystems are essential for providing several goods and services globally, with seagrasses as an important contributor for maintaining high biodiversity and productivity within the nearshore seascape. The temperate species Zostera marina serves as a vital habitat for many species, including ecologically and economically important juvenile fish. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Making Blue Carbon : Coastal Ecosystems at the Science-Policy Interface

    Författare :Terese Thoni; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; UNFCCC; science-policy interface; Blue Carbon; coastal ecosystems; klimatförändringarna; kustnära ekosystem; blått kol; relationen mellan vetenskap och politik; UNFCCC;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change is a growing threat to mankind. The message from the scientific community is clear: we need to act fast and profoundly. The political response has, however, been slow. The likelihood that we will be able to meet our political climate goals only by reducing emissions is slim. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aquatic vegetation in coastal ecosystems : The role of biotic interactions and environmental change for ecosystem functions and resilience in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Åsa Austin; Johan S. Eklöf; Joakim P. Hansen; Serena Donadi; Matthew E. S. Bracken; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; ecosystem functions; ecosystem multifunctionality; water clarity; fish recruitment; functional traits; feedbacks; biotic interactions; competition; facilitation; foundation species; seagrass; macrophytes; lagoons; brackish water; Baltic Sea; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal ecosystems are among the most productive on Earth but subjected to many human pressures. In shallow coastal areas, aquatic vegetation constitutes foundation species that sustain secondary production and act as a nutrient filter, which may buffer human impacts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Coral Reef Habitats and Fish Connectivity : Implications for coastal management and fishery

    Författare :Tove Lund Jörgensen; Michael Tedengren; Nick Graham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic disturbance; coral reef habitat; fish community; coastal ecosystems; conservation management; spatial ecology; seascape perspective; holistic approach; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs have one of the highest levels of biodiversity of all ecosystems in the world and are important for both human livelihood and food security throughout many tropical countries. However, due to increased anthropogenic pressure on marine ecosystems, especially during the last couple of decades, coral reefs have become critically over-fished, and many reefs are now in a degraded state and are facing additional future threats due to further over-exploitation, chemical pollution, sedimentation, and effects of climate change.
