  1. 1. Fish in the coastal seascape : exploring ecological processes and connectivity for conservation of temperate fish communities

    Författare :Thomas Staveley; Martin Gullström; Mats Björk; Regina Lindborg; Emma Jackson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seascape ecology; landscape ecology; seagrass; marine habitats; fish; spatial analysis; connectivity; conservation; Sweden; temperate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The need to understand patterns and processes in the marine environment has never been so profound as today, particularly as anthropogenic pressures upon coastal regions are drastically affecting habitats and species across a vast range. One approach to further understand these patterns and processes is through the use of seascape ecology methods. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fish community patterns in Tanzanian mangrove creeks

    Författare :Augustine Mwandya; Martin Gullström; Olof Lindén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Mangrove ecosystems; fish assemblages; Mugil cephalus; population genetics; spatial and seasonal variability; human disturbance; East Africa; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human beings have exploited the biota of mangrove systems for centuries and fish continue to be one of the main products harvested from these habitats. The assumption of mangroves functioning as recruitment areas for juvenile fish from neighbouring habitats such as seagrass beds and coral reefs is a common argument for conservation and management of mangrove ecosystems. 3. 3. Coral Reef Habitats and Fish Connectivity : Implications for coastal management and fishery

    Författare :Tove Lund Jörgensen; Michael Tedengren; Nick Graham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic disturbance; coral reef habitat; fish community; coastal ecosystems; conservation management; spatial ecology; seascape perspective; holistic approach; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs have one of the highest levels of biodiversity of all ecosystems in the world and are important for both human livelihood and food security throughout many tropical countries. However, due to increased anthropogenic pressure on marine ecosystems, especially during the last couple of decades, coral reefs have become critically over-fished, and many reefs are now in a degraded state and are facing additional future threats due to further over-exploitation, chemical pollution, sedimentation, and effects of climate change. 4. 4. Macroalgal community dynamics on coral reefs : Implications for management

    Författare :Erik Mörk; Nils Kautsky; Magnus Nyström; Tim R. McClanahan; Stein Fredriksen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macroalgae; Coral Reefs; Herbivory; Nutrients; Ecosystem change; Fish; Sea Urchins; East Africa; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Although rather inconspicuous on healthy coral reefs, macroalgae form the basis of coral food webs. Today, macroalgae are generally increasing and many reefs undergo transitions from coral to macroalgal dominance resulting from e.g. enhanced nutrient loading or increased fishing. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Paleolimnological reconstructions of fish population changes in acidified lakes

    Författare :Fredrik Palm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Acidification; Chaoborus; C. flavicans; C. obscuripes; Cyprinids; Daphnia; Fish loss; Fish community composition; Ephippia; Fragmentation; Mandibles; Perch; Roach; Sediments; 210-Pb chronology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the potential of using subfossil Chaoborus spp. and Daphnia spp. remains preserved in lake sediments to reveal past fish community alterations related to progressive acidification. LÄS MER
