  1. 1. Stress in chickens : Effects of domestication and early experience on behaviour and welfare

    Författare :Maria Ericsson; Per Jensen; Linda Keeling; Bjarne Braastad; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The domestication is the process where animals have adapted to human conditions. A prerequisite for domestication is tame behaviour towards humans and subsequently, selection for other desirable traits took place which led to changes in several behavioural and physiological parameters. 2. 2. Coping with Stress : Regulation of the Caulobacter crescentus cell cycle in response to environmental cues

    Författare :Kristina Heinrich; Kristina Jonas; Emanuele Biondi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caulobacter crescentus; bacteria; cell cycle; stress; filamentation; cell morphology; DNA replication; cell division; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : All organisms have to respond to environmental changes to maintain cellular and genome integrity. In particular, unicellular organisms like bacteria must be able to analyze their surroundings and rapidly adjust their growth mode and cell cycle program in response to environmental changes, such as changes in nutrient availability, temperature, osmolarity, or pH. 3. 3. Stress in infants and parents : Studies of salivary cortisol, behaviour and psychometric measures

    Författare :Evalotte Mörelius; Nina Nelson; Elvar Theodorsson; Uwe Ewald; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stress; Infants; Prematura childern; Intensive care; neonatal; saliva; Chemistry; Glucose; Hydrocortisone; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The life of a preterm infant admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit may be stressful from the moment of birth. Ever since Hans Selye’s initial characterisation of the biological stress response, cortisol has been frequently measured as an indicator of stress responsivity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on stress in African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) : Stress associated cortisol and prolactin levels, lymphocyte modulation and pathological changes in adrenal cortex, stomach and hippocampus in the African green monkey (C. aethiops)

    Författare :Mbaruk Abdalla Suleman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; adrenal cortex; capture; confinement; cortisol; husbandry; housing; hippocampus; lymphocytes; prolactin; stomach; stress; wild; African green monkeys; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : African green monkeys (AGMs) are highly susceptible to captivity-induced stress. An investigation of spontaneous deaths of laboratory confined AGMs at the Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi, Kenya over a period of 7.5 years documented mild to severe gastric mucosal erosions and ulcers in 83 of 260 (32%) necropsies. Sammanfattning : Experiences early in life or during adolescence modulate neuronal networks in the immature brain and consequently lay the foundation for future susceptibility or resilience towards psychiatric disorders. The objective in this thesis is to understand, in part, how the surrounding environment shapes the brain of a young individual. LÄS MER
