  1. 26. Understanding Boundary Conditions for Brain Injury Prediction : Finite Element Analysis of Vulnerable Road Users

    Författare :Victor S. Alvarez; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Ciaran Simms; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brain injuries; Vulnerable Road Users; windscreen impacts; Finite Element Analysis; pedestrian accidents; cycling accidents; pediatric neck; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Vulnerable road users (VRUs) are overrepresented in the statistics on severe and deadly injuries in traffic accidents, most commonly involving the head. The finite element (FE) method presents the possibility to model complex interactions between the human body and vehicles in order to better understand the injury mechanisms. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Towards improved motorcycle helmet test methods for head impact protection : Using experimental and numerical methods

    Författare :Shiyang Meng; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Mazdak Ghajari; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Head Injuries; Helmet; Injury Prevention; Motorcycle; Test Standard; Finite Element Method; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Head injury is the leading cause of death and major trauma for users of powered two-wheelers (PTWs). Helmet use can prevent and reduce head injuries when a crash is inevitable. However, today’s motorcycle helmets do not protect equally against all types of head injuries. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Validity and reliability of vehicle collis : crash pulse recorders for impact severity and injury risk assessment in real-life frontal impacts

    Författare :Anders Kullgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :crash recorder; crash pulse recorder; impact severity; injury risk; real-life impacts; measurement accuracy; neck injuries; long-term consequences; reconstruction;

    Sammanfattning : The general objectives of this thesis were to study the importance of valid and reliable data from real- life collisions, especially the effects of inaccurate data on analyses of eg injury risks. Furthermore an objective was to develop and validate an on-board measurement device for acceleration measurements, to be used in reconstructions of primarily frontal impacts. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Patient-related aspects on WAD

    Författare :Jouko Kivioja; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Whiplash injury; SCID; psychiatric morbidity; neck pain; depression; coping; cytokines; chemokines; prognosis.;

    Sammanfattning : Forces acting on the neck at a motor vehicle accident (MVA) can result in soft tissue injuries, commonly considered as "whiplash injuries", with different clinical manifestations, Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD). The pathogenesis of WAD is obscure and the diagnosis is mainly based on history and symptoms. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Children injured in traffic in a medical and psychosocial perspective : causes and consequences

    Författare :Eva M Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Posttraumatic stress; PTSD; PTSS; trauma care; road traffic accidents; children; follow-up; injury; disbility; physical consequences; psychological problems; sequel; bicycle accident; helmet; upper extremity injury; head injury; injury severity; psychosocial problems; risk factors;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: To examine the causes and consequences of road traffic injuries in children from a physical and psychosocial perspective, and to identify unfavourable circumstances and children who are at risk of injury and disability. Methods: Study I was a systematic review of the literature on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and PTSD symptoms (PTSS) in children injured in road traffic accidents. LÄS MER
