  1. 36. Wave Loads and Peak Forces on Moored Wave Energy Devices in Tsunamis and Extreme Waves

    Författare :Linnea Sjökvist; Malin Göteman; Mats Leijon; Peter Stansby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; OpenFOAM; CFD; Wave power; Tsunami waves; Extreme waves; Offshore; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Sammanfattning : Surface gravity waves carry enormous amounts of energy over our oceans, and if their energy could be harvested to generate electricity, it could make a significant contribution to the worlds power demand. But the survivability of wave energy devices in harsh operating conditions has proven challenging, and for wave energy to be a possibility, peak forces during storms and extreme waves must be studied and the devices behaviour understood. 2. 37. Molecular Dynamics Studies of Low-Energy Atom Impact Phenomena on Metal Surfaces during Crystal Growth

    Författare :Dragan Adamovic; Peter Münger; Thomas Michely; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular dynamics simulations; Low energy Ion irradiation; Atomistic processes; Thin film growth; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : It is a well-known fact in the materials science community that the use of low-energy atom impacts during thin film deposition is an effective tool for altering the growth behavior and for increasing the crystallinity of the films. However, the manner in which the incident atoms affect the growth kinetics and surface morphology is quite complicated and still not fully understood. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Prenatal Tisse Velocity Imaging of the Heart : A new approach to assess fetal myocardial function

    Författare :Nina Elmstedt; Lars-Åke Brodin; Britta Lind; Karel Marsal; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis has been to evaluate color‐coded tissue velocity imaging (TVI) as an approach to developing a new, non‐invasive assessment method for fetal myocardial function. Such a method could hypothetically give early indications of fetal pathology, as myocardial dysfunction is often the consequence when the circulation tries to adapt to deteriorating situations. Sammanfattning : The main objective of wave energy converters (WECs) is to ensure reliable electricity production at a competitive cost. Two challenges to achieving this are ensuring an efficient energy conversion and offshore survivability. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Earthquake Sources, the Stress Field and Seismic Hazard : A Study in Eritrea and its Surrounding

    Författare :Lijam Zemichael Hagos; Roland Roberts; Hossein Shomali; Kuvvet Atakan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Seismic hazard; Focal mechanism; Moment tensor inversion; Stress field; Afar depression; Eritrea; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Presented in this thesis are some basic concepts and applications of seismic hazard analysis and the elements that influence the amplitude and geometric attenuation of earthquake ground motion. This thesis centers on the identification of the styles of failure, focal mechanisms, and the state of regional stress in the study area. LÄS MER
