  1. 1. Earthquake Sources, the Stress Field and Seismic Hazard : A Study in Eritrea and its Surrounding

    Författare :Lijam Zemichael Hagos; Roland Roberts; Hossein Shomali; Kuvvet Atakan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Earth sciences; Seismic hazard; Focal mechanism; Moment tensor inversion; Stress field; Afar depression; Eritrea; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Presented in this thesis are some basic concepts and applications of seismic hazard analysis and the elements that influence the amplitude and geometric attenuation of earthquake ground motion. This thesis centers on the identification of the styles of failure, focal mechanisms, and the state of regional stress in the study area. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Experimenting with Focal Points and Monetary Policy

    Författare :Emma Runnemark; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Focal points Nash demand game Experiments Heterogeneity Framing Learning Monetary transmission Vector Autoregression VAR Regional differences;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two parts. The first part uses economic experiments to investigate how participants choose to divide a surplus in the presence of competing focal points. The second part examines whether a monetary policy shock has asymmetric regional effects. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular Mechanisms of Action of Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Angiogenesis Inhibition

    Författare :Chunsik Lee; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Jan Palmblad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell and molecular biology; anti-angiogenesis; angiogenesis inhibitor; endothelial cell; histidine-rich glycoprotein; focal adhesion; tumor-associated macrophages; VEGF; MMP; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, de novo synthesis of blood vessels from the pre-existing vasculature, is required both during embryonic development and in pathophysiological conditions. In particular, tumor growth needs new capillary vessels in order to both deliver oxygen and nutrients and to remove toxin and metabolites. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation

    Författare :Swarupa Panda; Nelson O. Gekara; Fredrik Elgh; Anna Överby; Geert van Loo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; The ubiquitin system; Deubiquitinase; MYSM1; Innate immune regulation Toll-like receptor; RIG-l like receptors; Cytoplasmic DNA receptors; NOD-like receptors; Francisella tularensis; Immune subversion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 5. 5. Focal ischemic reperfusion stroke model in rats and the role of galanin

    Författare :Lovisa Holm; Annette Theodorsson; Elvar Theodorsson; Tomas Hökfelt; Yanlin Wang-Fischer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third most common cause for mortality in industrialised countries and amongst the major causes of long- time morbidity. While the mortality due to myocardial infarction has been dramatically reduced during the last 10-15 years, mortality due to stroke remains almost the same, despite the fact that the two share similar basic pathogenic mechanisms including atherosclerosis, hypertension and diabetes.
