31. Classical molecular dynamics simulations of collision-induced absorption : method development and evaluation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis collision-induced absorption (CIA) coefficients are computed using molec-ular dynamics (MD) simulations. Part I is dedicated to the theoretical frame of the method, from the classical theory radiation to the derivation of an absorption coefficient. LÄS MER
32. Simulation of individual cells in flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 33. Model-Based Verification of Dynamic System Behavior against Requirements : Method, Language, and Tool
Sammanfattning : Modeling and simulation of complex systems is at the heart of any modern engineering activity. Engineers strive to predict the behavior of the system under development in order to get answers to particular questions long before physical prototypes or the actual system are built and can be tested in real life. 34. Efficiency Improvements in Waste-to-Energy Combustion Processes : Method Development and Evaluation
Sammanfattning : is the energy recovery method. The electrical efficiency of this technology, however, is generally low when compared with other solid fuel-fired combustion plants as a result of low steam properties. Furthermore, there is lack of efficient methods to evaluate the performance of this system. LÄS MER
35. Topology optimization of vehicle body structures : method, theory and applications
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is concerned with topology optimization of vehicle body structures. The first part of this thesis gives a summary of the research project. A design process for complex mechanical structures is presented. This design process includes an optimization step where simplified models are optimized. LÄS MER
