26. Inguinal Hernia after Urologic Surgery in Males with Special Reference to Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy. A Clinical, Epidemiological and Methodological Study
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: In 1996 the first report indicating that inguinal hernia (IH) was a complication to radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) was published. The main aims of this thesis were to further establish this relation, to establish the background incidence of IH in men not subjected to surgery, to identify risk factors for postoperative IH occurrence and to investigate whether postoperative IH is a complication also after other types of surgery performed through a lower midline incision. 27. Mortality and morbidity after groin hernia surgery : the role of nationwide registers in finding and analysing rare outcomes
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Groin hernia surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures world-wide. Although mainly uncomplicated, the large volume of these operations makes it important to consider severe postoperative complications. LÄS MER
28. Lung growth and lung hypoplasia in congenital diaphragmatic hernia
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypoplasia and persistent pulmonary hypertension are the main causes of mortality and morbidity in newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Prenatal tracheal occlusion or ligation (TL) is known to accelerate lung growth, but the mechanism of this is poorly understood. LÄS MER
29. Inguinal hernia surgery : aspects on chronic pain and contralateral repair
Sammanfattning : Inguinal hernia is common, and the only permanent treatment is surgical repair. Approximately 16,000 hernia repairs are performed annually in Sweden. Optimized surgical technique including mesh prosthesis decreases the prevalence of recurrences and the main outcome measurement is today chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP). LÄS MER
30. Patient-orientated aspects of the postoperative course after hernia surgery
Sammanfattning : Operations for inguinal hernia are one of the most common surgical procedures performed. With the development of mesh techniques, recurrence rates have improved radically and patient-orientated endpoints have evolved as important outcome measures. In recent studies, 15-50% of patients may experience some form of pain years after repair. LÄS MER
