1. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. LÄS MER
2. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils
Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program. 3. Modeling frost heave damages throughout the asphalt layer
Sammanfattning : There are various distresses arising from traffic loads and the surrounding environment to whichan asphalt pavement is subjected during its life span. The environment-associated damages aremore severe during winter when abundant moisture and freezing temperature are presentsimultaneously. LÄS MER
4. Frost modelling and pavement temperatures : summer pavement temperaures and frost modelling
Sammanfattning : Three papers form the present thesis. In paper I a numerical model for calculation of surface temperatures on a highway is presented. The model takes all relevant factors into consideration, i.e. LÄS MER
5. Towards frost damage prediction in asphaltic pavements
Sammanfattning : Roads are subjected to mechanical loads from the traffic as well as deteriorating mechanisms originating from the surrounding environment and climate. The damage arising is particularly severe during the winter season, when for example raveling, pot holes and cracks can emerge on the surfaces of asphaltic roads. LÄS MER
