6. Numerical Study of the Gas Flow and Heat Transfer during Electromagnetic Stirring and Post Combustion in EAFs
Sammanfattning : The effect of electromagnetic stirring on scrap melting and post combustion in two different electric arc furnaces (EAFs) have been studied using numerical modelling. The effect of electromagnetic stirring on melting of a piece of scrap located at the eccentric bottom tapping (EBT) region of an EAF has been studied. LÄS MER
7. Thermodynamics and Kinetics in Metallurgical Processes - with a Special Focus on Bubble Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Gas stirring is commonly used in the steelmaking processes to reinforce chemical reactions, kinetic transfer, and inclusion removal, etc. This dissertation concentrates on multiphase flows with gas bubbling to study fluid dynamics and thermodynamics in metallurgical processes. 8. The mechanical wear of tuyere refractory and stirring plugs in BOF steelmaking
Sammanfattning : Water modelling investigations of pressure change at tuyere tip or back attack and wear of H3B03 disks, as well as high temperature modelling wear tests of BOF refractory using single- or double-tuyere and Ar or N2 gas, have been carried out to study mechanisms for mechanical wear of the refractory for BOF stirring tuyeres and plugs. A new nominal Mach number, M*', was defined and adopted as the criterion for correlating test data. LÄS MER
9. Development Towards Sustainable Ironmaking : The IronArc Process
Sammanfattning : The IronArc process is a novel process for a more sustainable production of liquid pig iron using electricity for heating and hydrocarbons for reduction. This thesis aims to facilitate its use by investigating possible refractory solutions and the gas blowing in the process which is done by a plasma generator. LÄS MER
10. Modelling Approaches of Multiphase Phenomena Focusing on an Integrated Steelmaking Route
Sammanfattning : Improvements in numerical methods and developments of computer hardware brought attention to the modelling of metallurgical processes. This has been a critical step in understanding in-furnace conditions throughout the ironmaking and steelmaking process since it is, if not impossible, extremely difficult to conduct measurements during the process.
