11. Transmission of slow highly charged ions through nano-structures
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on experimental investigations of transmitting slow highly charged ions through nano-structures of various cross-sections. Transmission through rhombic and rectangular nanocapillaries in muscovite and phlogopite mica, respectively, is used to study the guiding and shaping of highly charged ion beams. LÄS MER
12. Supersymmetry vis-à-vis Observation : Dark Matter Constraints, Global Fits and Statistical Issues
Sammanfattning : Weak-scale supersymmetry is one of the most favoured theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics that elegantly solves various theoretical and observational problems in both particle physics and cosmology. In this thesis, I describe the theoretical foundations of supersymmetry, issues that it can address and concrete supersymmetric models that are widely used in phenomenological studies. LÄS MER
13. Superconformal D-branes and moduli spaces
Sammanfattning : The on-going quest for a single theory that describes all the forces of nature has led to the discovery of string theory. This is the only known theory that successfully unifies gravity with the electroweak and strong forces. LÄS MER
14. Electron - Ion Recombination Data for Plasma Applications : Results from Electron Beam Ion Trap and Ion Storage Ring
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains results of electron-ion recombination processes in atomic ions relevant for plasma applications. The measurements were performed at the Stockholm Refrigerated Electron Beam Ion Trap (R-EBIT) and at the CRYRING heavy-ion storage ring. LÄS MER
15. Observations of distant supernovae and cosmological implications
Sammanfattning : Type Ia supernovae can be used as distance indicators for probing the expansion history of the Universe. The method has proved to be an efficient tool in cosmology and played a decisive role in the discovery of a yet unknown energy form, dark energy, that drives the accelerated expansion of the Universe.
