  1. 1. Stochastic Simulation of Multiscale Reaction-Diffusion Models via First Exit Times

    Författare :Lina Meinecke; Per Lötstedt; Stefan Engblom; Ramon Grima; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computational systems biology; diffusion; first exit times; unstructured meshes; reaction-diffusion master equation; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume effects; finite element method; backward analysis; stochastic simulation; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Mathematical models are important tools in systems biology, since the regulatory networks in biological cells are too complicated to understand by biological experiments alone. Analytical solutions can be derived only for the simplest models and numerical simulations are necessary in most cases to evaluate the models and their properties and to compare them with measured data. 2. 2. Vänskap, värden, vandel: Avvikelser och återhämtningsstrategier hos Göteborgs första generation ungdomsnarkomaner

    Författare :Christer Ahlman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; pioneering drug delinquents; delinquency career; local drug community; internalised ethics; psychotic breakdown; exit from drugs; close relations; self-recovery; deep roles;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to investigate how and why a sample of young people who were criminals and drug addicts in the 1960s – Gothenburg’s first generation of young drug junkies – could get up on their feet and then sustain an orderly life. The empirical material consists of recorded and transcribed life history interviews with 15 individuals, 10 of whom had rather central positions within Gothenburg’s first generation of young drug addicts. 3. 3. Essays in Industry Dynamics on Imperfectly Competitive Markets

    Författare :Florin G. Maican; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; industry dynamics; imperfect competition; dynamic oligopoly model; productivity dynamics; service markets; structural estimation; R D; IT services; retail food;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four empirical essays on imperfectly competitive markets. Entry of large (“big-box”) stores along with a drastic fall in the total number of stores is a striking trend in retail markets. The first essay uses a dynamic structural model to estimate total factor productivity in retail. LÄS MER

  4. 4. X-ray structure and function studies of key enzymes for biomass conversion: GH6 cellobiohydrolases and GH61 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMO)

    Författare :Miao Wu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The need for large enzyme quantities due to the difficult hydrolysis of recalcitrant polysaccharides is still a major barrier to economical biomass conversion for biofuel production. To discover or develop new efficient wood degrading enzymes and add into enzyme cocktails are essential for optimizing enzymatic conversion of biomass. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Workers, Firms and Welfare : Four Essays in Economics

    Författare :Niklas Kaunitz; Markus Jäntti; Matthew Lindquist; Erik Lindqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; payroll taxes; unemployment; labor demand; firm performance; subjective well-being; cash margin; aggregation; utilitarianism; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises four chapters, in two parts. The first part examines the result of a Swedish payroll tax reduction; first from the perspective of the worker, then from that of the employer. The second half of the thesis concerns subjective well-being, both from an individual and from an aggregate viewpoint. LÄS MER
