31. Experimental Studies of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in Vascular Cells and Tissues
Sammanfattning : Epidemiological evidence suggest that exposure to endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) is a risk factor for diseases that involves the cardiovascular system but we know little about the mechanisms whereby these compounds can cause injury in the vasculature. The aim of this thesis was to characterize the effects and mechanisms of some EDCs in vascular cells and highly vascularized tissues. LÄS MER
32. Endometrial receptivity and regeneration in health and disease : molecular, cellular and clinical perspectives
Sammanfattning : Each month, the endometrium regenerates under the influence of the ovarian hormones and builds up to a receptive state in preparation for embryo implantation. In the absence of pregnancy, it sheds during menses and the regenerative cycle starts again. LÄS MER
33. G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER) in the female reproductive tract: from physiology to cancer
Sammanfattning : Estrogen effects are mediated either through genomic action involving the classical estrogen receptors, estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and beta (ERß), which function as transcription factors in the nucleus, or through rapid non-genomic action via receptors associated with plasma membrane. Recently, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family was ascribed estrogen receptor properties and proposed as a candidate for mediating non-genomic estrogen signaling. LÄS MER
34. Progesterone receptor modulators in contraception : clinical implications of ovarian and endometrial effects
Sammanfattning : Background: Emergency contraception (EC) offers a last chance to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse (UPSI) but before pregnancy occurs, for example after contraceptive failure, non-use of contraception or after rape. Progesterone receptor modulators (PRMs) exert their effect through acting as partial antagonists and partial agonists of the progesterone receptor (PR) and have proven effective for EC in low doses by postponing or inhibiting ovulation if it was taken preovulatory in the menstrual cycle. 35. A comparative study of estrogen receptors a and b in the female reproductive tract
Sammanfattning : Estrogens have a pronounced influence on the function of the female reproductive system. The regulation of biological processes by estrogens is mediated via specific intracellular receptors (ERs), ERalpha and ERbeta, which function as regulators of transcriptional activity. LÄS MER
