    Sammanfattning : Background: Pregnancy and labour often entail pain and tissue damage, which may lead to the development of chronic pain. Globally, chronic pain, defined as pain that persists after three months, is a leading cause of lasting suffering and disability.     Sammanfattning : In many women with gynecological complaints such as itching, burning, discharge, and fissures causing dyspareunia, examination of the vulvovaginal mucosa reveals hyperkeratotic and papillomatous changes. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique revealed 64% of such lesions to harbour Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)- DNA, whereas Southern blot (SB) technique showed 50% to be positive for HPV- DNA.     Sammanfattning : Objective: The main purpose of the study was to survey possible pathophysiological changes of the vestibular mucosa in women with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome with regard to the clinical findings of superficial dyspareunia and mucosal erythema. Methods: Biopsies analysed with immunohistochemistry were used to study the morphology, distribution and neuropeptide content of the peripheral nerves, and the microvascularisation of the vestibular mucosa.     Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis were to assess the objective, clinical, and sexual outcomes after transvaginal surgery for pelvic organ prolapse using a trocar guided mesh kit, to ascertain the vaginal in vivo histological inflammatory response to large mesh, and to identify possible risk factors associated with exposures after transvaginal mesh surgery. A prospective multicenter cohort study was performed between June 2006 and March 2007 throughout 26 clinics in the Nordic countries. LÄS MER
