6. Factors affecting peri-implant tissue reactions
Sammanfattning : Screw- shaped titanium implants are today routinely used m the substitution of lost teeth. In this thesis some of the biological factors related to the long-term survival and maintenance of dental implants were studied. The first arm of these studies was to evaluate the neutrophil activation around teeth and dental implants (Papers I & II). LÄS MER
7. Progression of periodontitis and influence of periodontal bacteria on release of inflammatory markers in Swedish adults
Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a common infectious disease worldwide. An estimated 15-35% of the adult population in industrialized countries suffers from this multifactorial disease. The percentage of people affected by periodontal disease increases with age, reaching a peak at the age of 5060 years. LÄS MER
8. Tobacco smoking and periodontal disease : some clinical, microbiological and immunological aspects
Sammanfattning : The main aim of the thesis was to evaluate the influence of smoking on the inflammatory response in periodontal disease. The overall study population included 347 patients: 224 men and 123 women, aged between 31-86 years, with moderate to severe periodontal disease. LÄS MER
9. On the role of plasma proteins in bacterial adhesion to dental surfaces
Sammanfattning : Bacterial receptors in dental pellicles could influence colonisation and subsequent plaque formation. Studies of such receptors in dental pellicles and bacterial adherence have often focused on proteins of salivary origin. We have only a limited knowledge of the receptor functions of plasma proteins reaching the pellicle via the crevicular fluid. LÄS MER
10. Periodontitis and coronary artery disease : Studies on the association between periodontitis and coronary artery disease
Sammanfattning : Periodontitis and coronary artery disease (CAD) are highly prevalent in Sweden’s population; both diseases have complicated pathogeneses and clinical manifestations due to immune-system triggered inflammation. Research in recent years reported that inflammation is a significant active participant in many chronic diseases. LÄS MER
