  1. 6. The effect of caloric restriction on age-related hearing loss and the impact of repeated sound exposures

    Författare :Paula Mannström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The auditory system is the sensory system responsible for hearing and crucial for communication between individuals. While aging, many organs of the body start losing their function, including the hearing organ. The severity of age-related hearing loss depends on numerous factors. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Hearing and cognition in speech comprehension. Methods and applications

    Författare :Mathias Hällgren; Stig Arlinger; Birgitta Larsby; Arne Leijon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aging; physiology; cognition; cognition disorders; dichotic listening tests; hearing loss; sensorineural; neuropsychological tests; speech perception; Audiology; Audiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Central auditory processing is complex and can not be evaluated by a single method. This thesis focuses on assessment of some aspects of central auditory functions by the use of dichotic speech tests and cognitive tests that tax functions important for speech processing. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Older Adults with Dual Sensory Loss : Prevalence, Diagnoses & Rehabilitation Services

    Författare :Elin Lundin; Stephen Widén; Agneta Anderzén-Carlsson; Moa Wahlqvist; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dual sensory loss; Healthy aging; Older adults; Prevalence; Rehabilitation services; Qualitative content analysis; Funktionsnedsättning och samhälle; Disability research;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Globally, the population aged 65 years and older are predicted to double within 30 years. The risk of developing vision loss in combination with hearing loss – dual sensory loss (DSL) increases with age. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Sex steroid hormone receptors : inner ear and hearing

    Författare :Rusana Simonoska; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that hearing loss is more profound in elderly males than females, regardless of noise exposure. Also, an age-related hearing decline starts much earlier in males, already after the age of 30, while in women, the decline does not start until the age of 50. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Calcium binding protein immunoreactivity in the central auditory system and correlations with the auditory periphery : the effects of noise and aging in mice

    Författare :Esma Idrizbegovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Auditory; hearing loss; central auditory system; stereology; plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : This study has examined how calcium binding protein immunoreactivity is modulated in the cochlear nucleus and the inferior colliculus after noise exposure and during aging in mice. The effect of noise exposure on calbindin-D28k (calbindin) and parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the dorsal and posteroventral cochlear nucleus (DCN and PVCN) and inferior colliculus (IC) was studied in CBA/CBA mice by using two-dimensional quantification.
