6. To See or Not to See : A Study on Capillary Refill
Sammanfattning : Background: Assessment of the critically ill is traditionally based on vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature and level of consciousness). Altered vital signs are, however, late indicators of deranged hemodynamics pointing to a need for additional, more sensitive markers of circulatory compromise. LÄS MER
7. Studies in Mortgage Pricing and Finance Theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three self-contained essays.Essay 1 examines the question of why reverse or participating mortgages have not been as much in demand as predicted. A theoretical framework is derived for evaluating the expected utility associated with a reverse or participating mortgage. LÄS MER
8. Micro-mechanically based modeling of mechano-sorptive creep in paper
Sammanfattning : The creep of paper is accelerated by moisture content changes. This acceleration is known as mechano-sorptive creep, which is also found in wood and some other materials. Mechano-sorptive creep has been known for several decades but it is still not well understood, and there is no generally accepted model explaining the effect. LÄS MER
9. Orientation of fibres in suspensions flowing over a solid surface
Sammanfattning : The orientation of fibres suspended in a viscous fluid, flowing over a solid surface, has been studied experimentally. A shear layer was generated, by letting the suspension flow down an inclined plate. LÄS MER
10. Hygroelastic behaviour of wood-fibre based materials on the composite, fibre and ultrastructural level
Sammanfattning : Wood fibres can be used as reinforcement in plastics for load carrying purposes. Some advantages compared with conventional man-made fibres are that wood fibres come from a renewable resource, have high specific stiffness and strength, are generally less hazardous to health, biodegradable, and can be manufactured at low cost and high volumes.
