16. Optical Parametric Devices in Periodically Poled LiTaO3
Sammanfattning : Optical parametric frequency conversion based on quasi phase matching (QPM) in nonlinear optical crystals is a powerful technique for generating coherent radiation in wavelength ranges spanning from the mid-infrared (mid-IR) to the blue, displaying low thermal load and high efficiency. This thesis shows how QPM in one- (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) lattices can be employed to engineer novel devices for parametric downconversion in the IR, af-fording freedom in designing both spectral and angular properties of the parametric output. 17. Microresonator combs for coherent optical communications
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the study of microresonator-based optical frequency combs for use in coherent optical communication links. Current links typically utilize several free-running lasers to achieve wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). LÄS MER
18. Nanophotonic devices in thin film lithium niobate
Sammanfattning : Photonic devices play a fundamental role in today’s society and are a central building blocks for numerous applications, ranging from modern internet to sensing and manufacturing, and photonics is foreseen to be the backbone of future quantum internet and quantum communication systems thanks to the long coherence time of light. At variance with electronic integrated circuits, where silicon has been the material of election for many decades, in the case of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) there are numerous options available for the material substrate. 19. Nonlinear optics in KTiOPO4 for spectral management of ultra-short pulses in the near- and mid-IR
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the possibilities of controlling nonlinear optical interactions in ferroelectric materials for bandwidth tailoring of ultrashort pulses in the pico- and femto-second range. The control is achieved through quasi-phase matching, which is based on alternating the material’s spontaneous polarization into different domains. LÄS MER
20. Nonlinear Theory of Partially Coherent Optical Waves
Sammanfattning : Nonlinear effects arise in optics as a consequence of the medium properties being modified by the presence of light. Of particular interest are situations where the effect of the nonlinearity can be described by an intensity dependent refractive index and the subsequent interplay with dispersion and diffraction.
