  1. 1. Martensitic Transformation in High Carbon Steels - Martensite Tetragonality and Impact of Cooling Rate

    Författare :Thomas Kohne; Annika Borgenstam; Peter Hedström; Jilt Sietsma; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High carbon steel; Martensitic transformation; Martensite tetragonality; Fatigue performance; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Case-hardened gears are an essential part of our every day life in their role of power transmission in cars and heavy-duty trucks. The increasing use of low pressure carburizing (LPC) for case-hardening in combination with high pressure gas quenching (HPGQ) for cooling opens new possibilities in the design of heat treatments for improved fatigue performance. 2. 2. Describing Interstitials in Close-packed Lattices: First-principles Study

    Författare :Noura Al-Zoubi; Levente Vitos; Se Kyun Kwon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Describing interstitial atoms in intermetallics or simple mono-atomic close-packed metals is a straightforward procedure in common full-potential calculations. One establishes a sufficiently large supercell, introduces the interstitial impurity and performs the electronic structure and total energy calculation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Defects in Austenitic Steels and Hard Metals - A DFT-based Study

    Författare :Ruiwen Xie; Levente Vitos; Ilja Turek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; defects; austenitic steels; cemented carbides; ab-initio; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Materials are never 100% pure due to the limitation of purification method or manufacturing process. Nor are they perfect, especially under deformation. The present work aims to explore different roles played by the defects in austenitic steels and hard metals. LÄS MER
