  1. 36. Upper extremity impairments in type 1 diabetes in comparison to matched controls without diabetes : associations to the IGF-system, metabolic factors, disability and quality of life

    Författare :Kerstin Gutefeldt; Anna Spångeus; Kerstin Brismar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Compared with the general population, people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) more often exhibit pathological alterations in musculoskeletal tissue (impairments). Some of these impairments involve the upper extremities, i.e., the shoulders, hands, and fingers. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Posttraumatic Stress Reactions in Tortured Refugees : Relationship to pain, cognitive impairments, and negative appraisals

    Författare :Linda Nordin; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Refugees; torture; PTSD; pain; cognitive impairment; TBI;

    Sammanfattning : Refugees, particularly those exposed to torture and other forms of organized violence, often experience a wide range of difficulties, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and somatic disturbances, particularly pain. Multimodal treatments have been developed to target this comorbidity in refugees, with evidence suggesting they are moderately effective. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Aspects of hand function in children with unilateral impairments : caused by obstetric brachial plexus or hemiplegic cerebral palsy

    Författare :Lena Krumlinde Sundholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hand function; unilateral impairments; obstetric brachial plexus palsy; hemiplegic cerebral palsy; children; assisting hand;

    Sammanfattning : Unilateral arm/hand dysfunction caused by obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) or hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP) is most often afflicted on a child in the pre- or perinatal period of life. Despite different origin of the impairments, the outcomes for both groups implicate one well functioning and one dysfunctioning hand, and the consequences for every day task performance are similar. 4. 39. Provisioning Strategies for Transparent Optical Networks Considering Transmission Quality, Security, and Energy Efficiency

    Författare :Amornrat Jirattigalachote; Lena Wosinska; Paolo Monti; Biswanath Mukherjee; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transparent optical networks; routing and wavelength assignment; physical-layer impairments; signal quality; differentiation of services; physical-layer attacks; power equalizers; Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure GRASP ; green networks; energy awareness; dedicated path protection; shared path protection; survivable WDM networks;

    Sammanfattning : The continuous growth of traffic demand driven by the brisk increase in number of Internet users and emerging online services creates new challenges for communication networks. The latest advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology make it possible to build Transparent Optical Networks (TONs) which are expected to be able to satisfy this rapidly growing capacity demand. 5. 40. Computer-based speech therapy using visual feedback with focus on children with profound hearing impairments

    Författare :Anne-Marie Öster; David House; James Mahshie; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Speech technology; hearing-imparment; speech therapy; visual feedback; second language learning; computer-based speech training; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents work in the area of computer-based speech therapy using different types of visual feedback to replace the auditory feedback channel. The study includes diagnostic assessment methods prior to therapy, type of therapy design, and type of visual feedback for different users during different stages of therapy for increasing the efficiency.
