  1. 11. Heart rate variability and pacemaker treatment in children with Fontan circulation

    Författare :Jenny Alenius Dahlqvist; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Jaana Pihkala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital heart disease; Fontan circulation; heart rate variability; pacemaker; sinus node dysfunction; pediatrik; Pediatrics; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Fontan surgery is performed in children with univentricular heart defects. Arrhythmias are frequent complications, occasionally requiring pacemaker treatment. Previous data regarding indications and risk factors for pacemaker treatment in Fontan patients is limited and conflicting. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia in adults

    Författare :Henrik Falhammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder affecting adrenal steroid synthesis. More than 95% of CAH cases are caused by reduced 21-hydroxylase function leading to variable extent of cortisol and aldosterone deficiency in addition to androgen excess. The foundation of CAH treatment is the use of glucocorticoids. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Follow-up of adults with congenitally malformed hearts with focus on individualised and computer-based education and psychosocial support : A descriptive and interventional study

    Författare :Helén Rönning; Eva Swahn; Anna Strömberg; Niels Erik Nielsen; Peter Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Congenital heart disease; education; information; instrument development; multidisciplinary team; nursing; phenomenography; psychometrics; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Many adults with congenitally malformed hearts are at risk for complications such as decreased function and capacity of the heart due to the heart defect and previously surgery. This advocates self-management behaviours related to medical treatments, physical activity, preventions of endocarditis, some restrictions regarding suitable employment and spare time activities, birth control and pregnancy, but also lifestyle concerns such as refraining from smoking and healthy eating. 4. 14. Coarctation of the aorta : register and imaging studies

    Författare :Daniel Rinnström; Bengt Johansson; Michael Henein; Martin Ugander; Gerhard-Paul Diller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coarctation of the aorta; adult congenital heart disease; hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; body mass index; height; weight; register; CMR;

    Sammanfattning : Background Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) constitutes 5-8 % of all congenital heart disease (CHD) and is associated with long-term complications such as hypertension (HTN) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Factors associated with HTN, LVH, and diffuse myocardial fibrosis, are not yet fully explored in this population. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Prognosis and clinical outomes in stroke patients with transcatheter closure of an atrial shunt

    Författare :Alexia Karagianni; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial shunt; cryptogenic stroke; patent foramen ovale; transcatheter intervention; cerebrovascular event; residual shunting;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The percutaneous transcatheter closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) after a cryptogenic cerebrovascular event (CVE) has been performed for more than two decades. In contrast with previous randomized studies, recent randomized studies support the closure of the PFO after a cryptogenic CVE in preference to medical treatment alone. LÄS MER
