11. Heart rate variability and pacemaker treatment in children with Fontan circulation
Sammanfattning : Background: Fontan surgery is performed in children with univentricular heart defects. Arrhythmias are frequent complications, occasionally requiring pacemaker treatment. Previous data regarding indications and risk factors for pacemaker treatment in Fontan patients is limited and conflicting. LÄS MER
12. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia in adults
Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder affecting adrenal steroid synthesis. More than 95% of CAH cases are caused by reduced 21-hydroxylase function leading to variable extent of cortisol and aldosterone deficiency in addition to androgen excess. The foundation of CAH treatment is the use of glucocorticoids. LÄS MER
13. Follow-up of adults with congenitally malformed hearts with focus on individualised and computer-based education and psychosocial support : A descriptive and interventional study
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Many adults with congenitally malformed hearts are at risk for complications such as decreased function and capacity of the heart due to the heart defect and previously surgery. This advocates self-management behaviours related to medical treatments, physical activity, preventions of endocarditis, some restrictions regarding suitable employment and spare time activities, birth control and pregnancy, but also lifestyle concerns such as refraining from smoking and healthy eating. 14. Coarctation of the aorta : register and imaging studies
Sammanfattning : Background Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) constitutes 5-8 % of all congenital heart disease (CHD) and is associated with long-term complications such as hypertension (HTN) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Factors associated with HTN, LVH, and diffuse myocardial fibrosis, are not yet fully explored in this population. LÄS MER
15. Prognosis and clinical outomes in stroke patients with transcatheter closure of an atrial shunt
Sammanfattning : Background: The percutaneous transcatheter closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) after a cryptogenic cerebrovascular event (CVE) has been performed for more than two decades. In contrast with previous randomized studies, recent randomized studies support the closure of the PFO after a cryptogenic CVE in preference to medical treatment alone. LÄS MER
