  1. 6. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons

    Författare :Jia Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :InsP6; L-type Ca 2 channel; hippocampal neuron; Ins 1; 4; 5 P3; Ca2 ; cyt-MIPP; pancreatic beta-cell; PtdIns 3; 4; 5 P3; Ptdlns 3; 5 P2.;

    Sammanfattning : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis. 2. 7. The role of calcium and calcium-regulated proteins in neutrophil phagocytosis

    Författare :Petra Jerström Skarman; Urban Gullberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil phagocytosis is an essential component of the innate immunity against invading pathogens. The two types of phagocytosis that are investigated in detail are IgG- and C3bi-mediated phagocytosis. Although the two types are controlled differently, they share the same driving force - reorganisation of the actin cytoskeleton. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Lipid Signalling Dynamics in Insulin-secreting β-cells

    Författare :Anne Wuttke; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Louis Philipson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; β-cell; diacylglycerol; insulin secretion; oscillations; PtdIns 4 P; PtdIns 4; 5 P2; protein kinase C; P2Y receptor; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Certain membrane lipids are involved in intracellular signalling processes, among them phosphoinositides and diacylglycerol (DAG). They mediate a variety of functions, including the effects of nutrients and neurohormonal stimuli on insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Calcium signaling : molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences

    Författare :Seth Malmersjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cells exploit calcium (Ca2+) signaling to transmit information. In a multicellular organism, each cell must be able recognize, process, and respond to information received from the surrounding environment. In this thesis I investigate molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences of Ca2+ signaling. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Antiapoptotic effect of ouabain in renal cells exposed to toxic glucose levels

    Författare :Liang Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases that causes enormous social and economic burden. The kidney is the filtration organ that produces urine and is the primary target of diabetic complications, a condition called diabetic nephropathy (DN). LÄS MER
