  2. 2. Articulation in time : Some word-initial segments in Swedish

    Författare :Malin Svensson Lundmark; Fonetik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; acceleration; articulation; articulography; coarticulation; EMA; gesture; phonology; prosody; speech motor control; speech production modelling; Swedish; word accent; tone;

    Sammanfattning : Speech is both dynamic and distinctive at the same time. This implies a certain contradiction which has entertained researchers in phonetics and phonology for decades. The present dissertation assumes that articulation behaves as a function of time, and that we can find phonological structures in the dynamical systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nuclear Intonation in Swedish : Evidence from Experimental-Phonetic Studies and a Comparison with German

    Författare :Gilbert Ambrazaitis; Fonetik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; parallel encoding; contrastive topic; new information; given information; focus; information structure; pragmatics; nucleus; sentence accent; prosody; word accent; F0; early peak; perception; reaction time;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates Swedish intonation patterns and their interaction with word accent realisation in various pragmatic conditions, using German as a reference language. The point of departure is the wide-spread assumption that Swedish, as a language with a tonal word accent distinction, has a considerably smaller repertoire of nuclear intonation contours than German and other so-called intonation languages. 4. 4. Brain anatomical correlates of perceptual phonological proficiency and language learning aptitude

    Författare :Mikael Novén; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosody; word accent; MRI; language learning aptitude; cortical morphometry; diffusion kurtosis imaging;

    Sammanfattning : The present dissertation concerns how brain tissue properties reflect proficiency in two aspects of language use: the ability to use tonal cues on word stems to predict how words will end and the aptitude for learning foreign languages. While it is known that people differ in their language abilities and that damage to brain tissue cause loss of cognitive functions, it is largely unknown if differences in language proficiencies correlate with differences in brain structure. 5. 5. Rapid neural processing of grammatical tone in second language learners

    Författare :Sabine Gosselke Berthelsen; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; grammatical tone; phonology; phonetics; word accent; morphology; inflection; grammar; EEG; ERP; processing; violations; ELAN; LAN; P600; second language acquisition; SLA; beginner learners; transfer; German; Swedish;

    Sammanfattning : The present dissertation investigates how beginner learners process grammatical tone in a second language and whether their processing is influenced by phonological transfer. Paper I focuses on the acquisition of Swedish grammatical tone by beginner learners from a non-tonal language, German. LÄS MER
