  1. 16. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Författare :Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 2. 17. Modelling of melanocortin receptors and their ligands

    Författare :Peteris Prusis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; melanocortin; G-protein coupled receptor; modeling; three-dimensional; QSAR; chemometrics; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Five subtypes of melanocortin receptors (MC1-MC5R) mediate a wide range of physiological actions, including control of skin tanning, inflammation and food intake. The natural ligands for these receptors are the melanocortins, which are linear peptides 11 to 39 amino acids long. LÄS MER

  3. 18. On Turbulent Wall Jets

    Författare :Hans Abrahamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-preservation; similarity theory; scaling laws; local flow reversals; high turbulence levels; turbulent kinetic energy budget; two-dimensional; turbulent; hot-wire anemometry; wall jet; three-dimensional; pulsed hot-wire anemometry;

    Sammanfattning : An experimental investigation of the two- and three-dimensional turbulent wall jets has been conducted. The measurements have been performed using different hot-wire techniques in large scale wall jet facilities, and the measurements were focused on the fully-developed region of the flow. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Investigating polymorphism in small molecules using three-dimensional electron diffraction

    Författare :Molly Lightowler; Xiaodong Zou; Hosea M. Nelson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3D electron diffraction; structure determination; polymorphism; crystallisation; phase identification; small molecule; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : For scientific, regulatory and intellectual property reasons, the discovery and characterisation of polymorphic systems is an integral aspect of the development process of any solid-formulated drug product. Yet, these studies are often hindered by crystal quality and size, poor yields and the generation of mixtures of phases. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Development of Time Resolved Laser Imaging Techniques for Studies of Turbulent Reacting Flows

    Författare :Johan Hult; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronics and Electrical technology; Laserteknik; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Laser technology; Fysik; Physics; Three-dimensional; Laser Diagnostics; High speed; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Hult;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis the development and application of a novel laser diagnostic system for high speed spectroscopic imaging of turbulent combustion phenomena is presented. The system is capable of recording sequences of up to 8 images with a separation between consecutive images as short as microseconds. LÄS MER
