1. Internal Stresses in Wood Caused by Climate Variations
Sammanfattning : This thesis is the result of a series of investigations on the hygro-mechanical behaviour of clear wood in the radial and tangential directions. Approximately half of the effort put into the investigations was concentrated on laboratory tests while the remaining effort was concentrated on modelling the observations made in the tests. LÄS MER
2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour
Sammanfattning : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. Mechano-sorptive Creep in Wood - Experimental Studies of the Influence of Material Properties
Sammanfattning : Mechano-sorptive creep deformations appear when wood is loaded under varying moisture conditions. These creep deformations are known to be larger than the creep deformations under constant humidity conditions. The present thesis deals with mechano-sorptive creep in Norway spruce wood. LÄS MER
4. Moisture Induced Stress Perpendicular to Grain in Timber Structures
Sammanfattning : Timber structures and wooden element are in general affected by moisture and moisture variation in different ways. Their hygroscopic properties result in adsorption of water when wetted and in desorption when dried. LÄS MER
5. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber
Sammanfattning : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate.
