1. The Design and Structure Prediction of Protein Oligomers
Sammanfattning : The minimum free energy state of a protein (the native state) is encoded by its amino-acid sequence. Due to the many torsional degrees of freedom (DOF) available to a polypeptide chain, a vast number of conformations is possible. LÄS MER
2. Improving fingerprint biometrics by local symmetry and fusion
Sammanfattning : Fingerprint recognition and biometrics in general have been significantly gaining attention within the last years, not least due to the biometric passport that has been introduced all over Europe and the American immigration management system US-VISIT. The tasks of fingerprint recognition can be broken down to smaller entities, i.e. LÄS MER
3. Investigation of [N-X-N]+ and [N-C-N]+ complexes in solution : Exploring Geometry, Stability and Symmetry
Sammanfattning : Halogen bonding is a weak interaction. In this thesis the three center four electron halogen bond, [N−X−N]+, has been studied. The lighter halogens form highly unstable halonium ions that are reactive towards nucleophiles and their complexes were therefore investigated at low temperatures. LÄS MER
4. Symmetry of Halonium Complexes in Solution
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the symmetry of two interaction types involving electropositive halogens have been studied in solution; the N-X+-N halogen bond (X = Br or I), and the C-X+-C interaction of previously characterised, cyclic, 1,2-bridged halonium ions (X = Cl or Br), respectively. The three N-X+-N model structures included are bispyridine, 1,2-bis(pyridine-2-ylethynyl)benzene and 1,2-bis((4-methylpyridin-2-yl)ethynyl)benzene halonium triflate complexes. LÄS MER
5. Structure-aided design of antiviral drugs : Application of the method on HIV-1 protease and SIV reverse transcriptase
Sammanfattning : Many efforts have been made to control the AIDS epidemic. Extensive studies have been done on the biology, biochemistry, and structural biology of HIV in the search for antiviral drugs. The viral-encoded enzymes reverse transcriptase and protease have been main targets for drug design. LÄS MER
