  1. 1. Chronic Tennis Elbow : Aspects on Pathogenesis and Treatment in a Soft Tissue Pain Condition

    Författare :Magnus Peterson; Kurt Svärdsudd; Margaretha Eriksson; Harald Breivik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :tennis elbow; pain; chronic; soft tissue; imaging; PET; RCT; survey; treatment; exercise; eccentric; concentric; epicondylosis; epicondylitis; tendinosis; tendinitis;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: To study the treatment practice of chronic tennis elbow (TE) among general practitioners (GPs) and physiotherapists (PTs), the effects of a simple, graded home exercise regime versus expectation, the effects of eccentric versus concentric exercise, and the involvement of the substance P – NK1 receptor system in the peripheral, painful tissue of chronic TE patients by positron emission tomography (PET). Materials and methods: A postal survey regarding therapeutic methods used in patients with chronic TE was sent to 129 GPs and 77 PTs, 81 subjects with chronic TE were randomly and blindly assigned to either an exercise group or a wait list group, 120 subjects were randomly assigned to either eccentric or concentric exercise and ten subjects were examined by PET and the NK1 specific radioligand [11C]GR205171. 2. 2. Electroosmosis Based Treatment Approach for Cerebral Edema

    Författare :Teng Wang; Xiaogai Li; Svein Kleiven; Tiit Illimar Mathiesen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cerebral edema; electroosmosis based treatment; finite element head model; electroosmotic flow; Technology and Health; Teknik och hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebral edema characterized as an abnormal accumulation of excess fluid in the intracellular or extracellular spaces has not been treated effectively despite aggressive treatments. As a result, cerebral edema often leads to intracranial pressure (ICP) elevation with potentially severe consequences unless treated effectively. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Congenital muscular torticollis

    Författare :Anna Öhman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; craniofacial asymmetry; rotation; lateral flexion; muscle function; infants; reference values; torticollis; early motor milestones; stretching treatment; physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The purpose of these studies was to undertake a survey of functional and cosmetic status in children treated for congenital muscular torticollis (CMT), to examine validity and reliability of the Muscle Function Scale (MFS), to find reference values for rotation and lateral flexion of the neck and muscle function of the lateral flexors in the neck for the normally developing infant, to investigate if infants with CMT are at higher risk of achieving the early motor milestones later compared to a control group of healthy infants and to investigate if treatment duration is affected when stretching is carried out by an experienced physiotherapist compared to parents. Methods: Range of motion (ROM) in neck rotation was measured with an arthrodial protractor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Treatment of whiplash associated disorders

    Författare :Aris Seferiadis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiplash-associated disorders; systematic review; randomized controlled trial; McKenzie method; fear-avoidance; chronic pain; exercise therapy; basic body awareness;

    Sammanfattning : Whiplash injuries seem to have a substantial impact on health. Half the affected patients have persistent pain and disability and significant costs are incurred to society, mainly due to inability to return to work. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of repetitive work on proprioception and of stretching on sensory mechanisms : implications for work-related neuromuscular disorders

    Författare :Martin Björklund; Håkan Johansson; Albert Crenshaw; Ronny Lorentzon; Måns Magnusson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Repetitive motions; Muscle fatigue; Proprioception; Muscle stretching; Work-related musculoskeletal disorders; Nociception; Ergonomics; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were (i) to investigate the impact of repetitive low-intensity work exposure on proprioception and (ii) to examine effects of muscle stretching (especially sensory effects and effects on muscle nociception) and to relate its application to the prevention, alleviation and/or treatment of work-related neuromuscular disorders. The effects of low-intensity repetitive work on the shoulder proprioception were tested in healthy subjects. LÄS MER
