1. Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Ketogenic Diet on Quality of Life and Changes in EEG and Sleep
Sammanfattning : When anti-epileptic drugs fail, and epilepsy surgery is found unfeasible or ineffective, there remains a group of at least 25% of children with epilepsy in whom seizure control cannot be achieved. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an adjunctive treatment for medically refractory epilepsy. LÄS MER
2. A Signal Processing Approach to Practical Neurophysiology : A Search for Improved Methods in Clinical Routine and Research
Sammanfattning : Signal processing within the neurophysiological field is challenging and requires short processing time and reliable results. In this thesis, three main problems are considered.First, a modified line source model for simulation of muscle action potentials (APs) is presented. LÄS MER
3. Speciation analysis of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in environmental samples by GC separation and atomic spectrometric detection
Sammanfattning : The main goal of the work presented in this thesis is to improve the reliability of existing methods for speciation analysis of organotin compounds Species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) calibration in combination with gas chromatography – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to investigate the transformation of phenyltin species during sample preparation. Isotope-enriched phenyltin species were synthesized from corresponding isotope-enriched tin metals. LÄS MER
4. Molecular characterization and detection of infectious bronchitis virus
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular characterization and detection of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), an important pathogen that causes heavy losses in the poultry populations worldwide. The aim of the research was to better understand the molecular characteristics of the virus and to investigate the factors behind the continuous emergence of new genetic variants and the occurrence of outbreaks. 5. Oscillations and spike statistics in biophysical attractor networks
Sammanfattning : The work of this thesis concerns how cortical memories are stored and retrieved. In particular, large-scale simulations are used to investigate the extent to which associative attractor theory is compliant with known physiology and in vivo dynamics. LÄS MER
