  1. 21. Recruitment of circulating cells into skeletal muscle : occurrence and possible mechanisms

    Författare :Anna Strömberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tissue remodeling is a central process for all life. When a tissue is exposed to environmental stress such as injury, both local cells and cells from the periphery are recruited to regenerate and remodel the tissue. During the last decades the importance of resident cells, e.g. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Genetic and epigenetic characterization of pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Författare :Josef Davidsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; high hyperdiploid ALL; children; chromosome aberration; methylation profiling; array CGH; relapse; SNP array; clonal relationship; dup 1q ;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to analyze the genetic and epigenetic characteristics of pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia (HeH ALL), the most common type of childhood malignancy. The three original articles presented in this thesis have addressed three major questions regarding HeH ALL: what are the genetic characteristics of the most common structural abnormality – dup(1q)? Are aberrant methylation patterns involved in leukemogenesis? How do diagnostic and relapse samples relate to each other genetically? In article I we found that the proximal breakpoints of dup(1q)-positive Burkitt lymphomas (BL) and pediatric HeH ALLs cluster close to the centromere, suggesting this region to be breakprone, and that five genes on 1q were significantly overexpressed and thus potentially pathogenetically important. 3. 23. Chromosomal Instability and Genomic Amplification in Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours

    Författare :David Gisselsson Nord; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear atypia; kinetochore; anaphase bridge; p53; breakage-fusion-bridge cycle; TP53; HMGIC; MDM2; mitotic instability; genomic instability; FISH; osteosarcoma; liposarcoma; amplification; tumour; chromosome; cytogenetics; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic abnormalities are found in all types of malignant tumours and may contribute to neoplastic processes by altering protein structure or dosage. Many bone and soft tissue tumours (BSTT) are characterised by complex patterns of chromosome changes, including extensive intratumour heterogeneity and amplification of DNA sequences. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Immunological changes in human blood and skeletal muscle in response to physical exercise

    Författare :Christer Malm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Eccentric exercise; soccer; football; adaptation; immune system; muscle; inflammation; damage; leukocytes; growth factors; cytokines; adhesion; signaling; hormones.;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is essential for maintaining normal function of skeletal muscle. Muscle tissue also has a remarkable capacity for adaptation to changes in physical demand. In fact, without stimulation from physical activity, muscle tissue will atrophy. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The dynamic chromosphere : Results and techniques with an observational approach

    Författare :Carolina Robustini; Jorrit Leenaarts; Fernando Moreno Insertis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sun; chromosphere; jets; sunspots; imaging; spectropolarimetry; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : The chromosphere is a critical interface between the relatively cold photosphere and the hot corona. Its landscape is rich in very dynamic phenomena such as jets, spicules, and surges, which are thought to play an important role in the heating of the Sun’s upper atmosphere. LÄS MER
