1. Uncovering Ocean Mixing near Rough Bathymetry : Using Broadband Acoustics
Sammanfattning : Ocean mixing related to rough bathymetry is highly dynamic and exhibits large spatial and temporal variability. Therefore, established in-situ methods as well as numerical models often lack the resolution to capture this type of mixing. In this thesis, acoustics are used to observe, map and quantify stratified mixing at unprecedented resolution. LÄS MER
2. An Experimental Study of Fluid Dynamics and Mixing in Bubbly Gas-Liquid Flow Systems
Sammanfattning : In the present project, a new experimental method enabling Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) measurements in bubbly gas-liquid flows is presented. Due to reflection and refraction of the laser light, the bubbles will cause an uneven and unknown distribution of light intensity in the measurement plane. LÄS MER
3. Numerical studies of turbulent wall-jets for mixing and combustion applications
Sammanfattning : Direct numerical simulation is used to study turbulent plane wall-jets. The investigation is aimed at studying dynamics, mixing and reactions in wall bounded flows. The produced mixing statistics can be used to evaluate and develop models for mixing and combustion. LÄS MER
4. Advanced Laser-based Multi-scalar Imaging for Flame Structure Visualization towards a Deepened Understanding of Premixed Turbulent Combustion
Sammanfattning : The work presented in the thesis concerns the developments of laser-based diagnostics and its application to the study of turbulent premixed combustion. The diagnostic developments, mainly concerned with planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF), are intended to provide instantaneous visualization of the key species originating from the combustion processes involved in the burning of hydrocarbons and nitrogen-containing fuels under turbulent conditions. 5. Turbulent ship wakes and their spatiotemporal extent
Sammanfattning : Shipping activities occur in almost every part of the global oceans and in intensely trafficked shipping lanes there can be up to one ship passage every ten minutes. All these ships impact the marine environment in different ways through pollution or physical disturbance. LÄS MER
