  1. 1. Mating strategies and sexual conflicts in aquatic invertebrates: consequences for evolutionary differentiation

    Författare :Kristina Karlsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asellus aquaticus; Dytiscidae; gender bias; genetic polymorphism; mate guarding; parallel evolution; plasticity; population divergence; sexual conflict; sexually antagonistic selection; sexual selection;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I investigated how mating related strategies may differ among populations and how these strategies evolve in response to their local ecological environments. I have used two different study systems of aquatic invertebrates: diving beetles (Dytiscidae) and the fresh water isopod Asellus aquaticus. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Female choice and paternal care in the fifteen-spined stickleback, Spinachia spinachia

    Författare :Sara Östlund-Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; fifteen-spined stickleback; spinachia spinachia; female choice; paternal care; nest building; ornament; fanning; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the fifteen-spined stickleback, Spinachia spinachia, males provide females with direct benefits by fanning, cleaning and guarding the offspring. Males announce their parental skills through intense body shakes during courtship. Females preferred to mate with more intensely shaking males. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic and hormonal influences on affiliative behavior in humans

    Författare :Hasse Walum; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Affiliative bonds between romantic partners are widespread pan-culturally and an important part of human nature and society. Still, knowledge about the biological correlates of human pair bonds is sparse. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The prey perspective - behaviour and appearance in a world of predators

    Författare :Johan Ahlgren; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Local adaptation; predator regime; phenotypic plasticity; inducible defence; mortality; animal personality; predator; trait-compensation;

    Sammanfattning : The varieties of prey phenotypes that have been revealed in nature are vast and many of these phenotypes are the result of the selective force that predators have had on prey traits in the past. Even within species and populations we see variations due to both differences in the selection forces they live under but also due to individual trait variation. LÄS MER
