  1. 21. Dispersal of bryophytes across landscapes

    Författare :Niklas Lönnell; Kristoffer Hylander; Bengt Gunnar Jonsson; Sebastian Sundberg; Johan Ehrlén; Risto Virtanen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anemochory; bryophytes; colonization; connectivity; diaspores; dispersal kernel; establishment; spore dispersal; long-distance dispersal; mechanistic model; mosses; realized dispersal; spore release; Lagrangian stochastic model; wind dispersal; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Dispersal, especially long-distance dispersal, is an important component in many disciplines within biology. Many species are passively dispersed by wind, not least spore-dispersed organisms.In this thesis I investigated the dispersal capacity of bryophytes by studying the colonization patterns from local scales (100 m) to landscape scales (20 km). 2. 22. On the Characteristics of Fires in Tunnels

    Författare :Anders Lönnermark; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; experiments; tunnel fire; heat release rate; temperature; fire spread; ventilation; backlayering; pulsations; thermoacoustic instability; equivalence ratio; emissions; gas concentrations; toxicity; Technological sciences; Teknik; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik; Railway transport technology; Järnvägstransportteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Important phenomena related to tunnel fires are presented including both experimental and theoretical work. The main focus is on the large-scale fire tests performed in 2003, in the Runehamar tunnel in Norway. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Predicting the transport of Escherichia coli to groundwater

    Författare :Emma Engström; Berit Balfors; Roger Thunvik; Nils-Otto Kitterød; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Groundwater contamination with pathogens poses a health risk worldwide. Predictive modeling could provide decision support for risk analysis in this context. This study therefore aimed to improve predictive modeling of the transport of Escherichia coli (E. coli) to groundwater. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Incorporation of Departure Time Choice in a Mesoscopic Transportation Model for Stockholm

    Författare :Ida Kristoffersson; Leonid Engelson; Jan Lundgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport Modelling; Departure Time Choice; Dynamic Traffic Simulation; Time-Varying Congestion Charges; Peak Spreading; Reverse Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Travel demand management policies such as congestion charges encourage car-users to change among other things route, mode and departure time. Departure time may be especially affected by time-varying charges, since car-users can avoid high peak hour charges by travelling earlier or later, so called peak spreading effects. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Encountering Environments. Natural conditions for subsistence and trade at Monte Polizzo, Sicily, 650-550 BC

    Författare :Cecilia Sandström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Ancient Sicily; Western Sicily; Monte Polizzo; Elymian; Indigenous; Iron Age; Archaic; Ancient environment; Archaeology; Geoarchaeology; Landscape Archaeology; Ecology; Geomorphology; Rivers; Ancient navigability; Subsistence; Land use; Trade; Trade routes; Transport amphorae; Connectivity; Household economy; Palynology; Exchange; Selinus; Motya; Segesta;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to deepen our knowledge about indigenous western Sicilians commonly called the Elymians and, ultimately, to recognise them as independent actors in Sicilian history. A vital part of this endeavour is to assess the Elymian role in regional trade and to evaluate the subsistence challenges they faced. LÄS MER
