1. Dispersal of bryophytes across landscapes
Sammanfattning : Dispersal, especially long-distance dispersal, is an important component in many disciplines within biology. Many species are passively dispersed by wind, not least spore-dispersed organisms. In this thesis I investigated the dispersal capacity of bryophytes by studying the colonization patterns from local scales (100 m) to landscape scales (20 km). 2. The ecological significance of sexual reproduction in peat mosses (Sphagnum)
Sammanfattning : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are widely distributed and are a major component of mire vegetation and peat throughout the boreal and temperate regions. Most boreal Sphagnum species regularly produce sporophytes, but the ecological role of the spore has been questioned. LÄS MER
3. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens
Sammanfattning : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. LÄS MER
4. Plant Species Composition and Diversity in Cliff and Mountain Ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Ecosystems today are under increasing pressure from a rapidly changing climate, changes in land-use, habitat fragmentation and degradation and increasing anthropogenic disturbance. Studying drivers of biodiversity patterns is of increasing importance for understanding the dynamics of communities and their reactions and adaptation to changes in the future. LÄS MER
5. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes
Sammanfattning : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. LÄS MER
