  1. 11. Molecular mechanisms of the kidney in health and disease

    Författare :Kerstin Ebefors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :kidney; gene expression; glomerulus; proteoglycans;

    Sammanfattning : In 2010, 307 Swedish patients received a new kidney through transplantation, and the first of April 2011, 603 patients were on the kidney transplant waiting list. In Sweden over 8000 patients are presently in active uremic care with about half in dialysis and the other half with a functional kidney graft. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Please Be Patient : A Cultural Phenomenological Study of Haemodialysis and Kidney Transplantation Care

    Författare :Martin Gunnarson; Fredrik Svenaeus; Susanne Lundin; Klaus Lindgaard Høyer; Södertörns högskola; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the practice of haemodialysis and kidney transplantation, the two medical therapies available for persons with kidney failure, from a phenomenological perspective. A basic assumption made in the thesis is that contemporary biomedicine is deeply embedded in the cultural, historical, economic, and political circumstances provided by the particular local, national, and transnational contexts in which it is practiced. 4. 14. Localization of lipoprotein lipase in mouse pancreas, kidney and placenta : impact of metabolic disturbances on cellular distribution and activity regulation

    Författare :Rakel Nyrén; Gunilla Olivecrona; Paolo Parini; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein lipase; pancreas; kidney; placenta; angiopoietin-like protein 4; high-fat diet; obesity; mice; PET CT; nutritional status; triglyceride; GPIHBP1; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the key enzyme for metabolism of triglycerides in plasma lipoproteins. In recent years many new facts about the enzyme and its regulation have been uncovered. The endothelial membrane protein GPIHBP1 translocates LPL through endothelial cells and holds the enzyme in place at the luminal side of the capillary endothelium. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Prospective and longitudinal human studies of lead and cadmium exposure and the kidney

    Författare :Johan Nilsson Sommar; Ingvar A Bergdahl; Max Petzold; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cadmium; end-stage renal disease; kidney; lead; longitudinal; matched case-control; mixed effects; prospective; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cadmium and lead accumulate in humans and can have toxic effects. Exposure to cadmium is well known to cause kidney damage. Cadmium binds to metallothioneins, proteins that play a role in cadmium transport. LÄS MER
