1. Deposition and absorption of inhaled drugs
Sammanfattning : Main objectives of this thesis were to evaluate a gamma scintigraphic method used to quantify drug aerosol deposition in the lung, to investigate the influence of two aerosol inhalation parameters on the distribution of inhaled dry powder within the airways, to assess pulmonary absorption kinetics and bioavailability of an inhaled hydrophilic solute in relation to site of deposition, and to assess the influence of a surface active agent (sodium taurocholate, a bile salt) on the deposition and absorption of an inhaled hydrophilic solute. Repeated planar gamma scintigraphy was found to provide the same information on total pulmonary drug deposition as an independent method that involved assessments of urinary drug recovery after blockage of gastrointestinal drug absorption when all of the critical parts of the methodological procedures were accurately and meticulously executed. 2. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements
Sammanfattning : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. LÄS MER
3. A Study of Group 13-Nitride Atomic Layer Deposition : Computational Chemistry Modelling of Atomistic Deposition Processes
Sammanfattning : The crystalline solids aluminium nitride (AlN), gallium nitride (GaN) and indium nitride (InN), together with their alloys, are of huge interest in the semiconductor industry. Their bandgaps span an extensive range from 6.0 eV for AlN to 0.7 eV for InN, with GaN in between at a bandgap of 3. LÄS MER
4. Laser metal fusion and deposition using wire feedstock : Process modelling and CFD simulation
Sammanfattning : Laser metal fusion is widely used in production technology to manufacture parts, as in welding, cladding, and additive manufacturing. In this study, conduction mode laser metal fusion is applied without and with metal deposition from a wire feedstock. LÄS MER
5. FEM Modelling of Micro-galvanic Corrosion in Al Alloys Induced by Intermetallic Particles : Exploration of Chemical and Geometrical Effects
Sammanfattning : Localized corrosion, such as pitting, crevice corrosion or galvanic corrosion, is a long-standing phenomenon that can greatly limit the life of metallic materials. For decades experimental methods have been used to try to understand the underlying physical, chemical and electrochemical processes that control localized corrosion in order to find effective protection methods against its propagation.
