  1. 1. Cyanide and central nervous system : a study with focus on brain dopamine

    Författare :Gudrun Cassel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CNS; cyanide; dopaminergic system; convulsions; receptor binding; tyrosine hydroxylase; monoamine oxidase; extracellular release; inositol phosphate; GABA; GAD;

    Sammanfattning : The brain is a major target site in acute cyanide intoxication, as indicated by several symptoms and signs. Cyanide inhibits the enzyme cytochrome oxidase. This inhibition causes impaired oxygen utilization in all cells affected, severe metabolic acidosis and inhibited production of energy. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neonatal complications following birth by vacuum extraction

    Författare :Katarina Åberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Vacuum extraction is a common method of delivery presently accounting for approximately 7 percent of all deliveries in Sweden. It is considered an important and safe obstetric procedure, although both maternal and neonatal complications exist. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Trace Element Analysis with Application to Environmental Pollutants Studies in Vietnam

    Författare :Thi Hong Nguyen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; blood; environmental samples; discriminant analysis; ICP-MS; coal mining; hair; EDXRF; microwave digestion; CV-AAS; urine; sample preparation; coal combustion;

    Sammanfattning : In the work presented here the attention has been focused on optimising sample preparation and analytical techniques for trace element determination, analytical quality assurance and environmental applications. Trace element concentrations in various environmental matrices were investigated using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectro-metry (ICP-MS) and Cold Vapour Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (CV-AAS). 4. 4. Mechanisms of excitability in the central and peripheral nervous systems : Implications for epilepsy and chronic pain

    Författare :Jenny Tigerholm; Erik Fransén; Dieter Jaeger; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dendritic excitability; synchronized synaptic input; multicompartment model; epilepsy; axonal excitability; silent C–fibres; Hodgkin–Huxley dynamics; conduction velocity; KA;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis concerns mechanisms of excitability of neurons. Specifically, it deals with how neurons respond to input, and how their response is controlled by ion channels and other active components of the neuron. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Hurricane of Passion : Popular Politics and Emotion in Late Georgian England 1792-1812

    Författare :Alvar Blomgren; Sennefelt Karin; Magnus Linnarsson; Margaret Hunt; Katrina Navickas; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This book casts new light on the struggle over reform in Britain following the French Revolution by studying how Georgians from across the social spectrum sought to enlist popular passions, either in defence of the established order – or in order to subvert and challenge it. Inspired by the history of emotions, practice theory, and social movements theory it introduces the concept of ‘emotional tactics’, defined as the language, material objects, and practices used to encourage emotions for political purposes.
