  1. 1. Study of autoimmune reactions in rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Evan Reed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects approximately 1% of the population worldwide. Despite being rather common, the etiopathology of RA remains unclear. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Representing and Reasoning about Complex Human Activities - an Activity-Centric Argumentation-Based Approach

    Författare :Esteban Guerrero Rosero; Helena Lindgren; Juan Carlos Nieves; Chris Reed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Complex activity; Argumentation Theory; Activity Theory; Logic programming; Knowledge representation; Common-sense reasoning; Artificial Intelligence; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to develop theories and formal methods to endow a computing machinery with capabilities to identify, represent, reason and evaluate complex activities that are directed by an individual’s needs, goals, motives, preferences and environment, information which can be inconsistent and incomplete.Current methods for formalising and reasoning about human activity are typically limited to basic actions, e. 3. 3. The role of cyclin E in cell cycle regulation and genomic instability

    Författare :Susanna Ekholm-Reed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cyclin E; cell cycle; Restriction point; pre-RC; Mcm proteins; DNA replication; tumorigenesis; proteolysis; hCdc4;

    Sammanfattning : Cyclin E, a positive regulatory subunit of Cdk2, normally accumulates periodically at the G1/S transition, where it promotes entry into S phase and other DNA replication-associated functions. However, in many types of human cancer, cyclin E is overexpressed and in some cases its expression becomes deregulated, a phenomenon generally associated with poor prognosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Internal oxygen transport to below-ground parts: importance for emergent macrophytes

    Författare :Viveka Vretare Strand; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; water depth; zonation; phenotypic plasticity; biomass allocation; pressurised ventilation; oxygen; Phragmites australis; emergent macrophytes; common reed; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines factors regulating growth and distribution of emergent plants with focus on effects of oxygen supply to the roots. Greenhouse experiments revealed that P. australis acclimatizes to specific water depths with phenotypic plasticity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree

    Författare :Mikael Åkesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome mapping ; AFLP; microsatellite; synteny; heterochiasmy; recombination; chicken; great reed warbler ; bird; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Animal ecology; trait correlation ; Djurekologi; animal model ; selection; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; heritability;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population.
