  1. 6. Pathways linking sleep, neuroimmune signaling and pain: an integrative approach

    Författare :Martin Flores Bjurström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pain; neuroinflammation; inflammation; glia; central sensitization; cerebrospinal fluid; osteoarthritis; chronic postsurgical pain; groin hernia repair; sleep; sleep disturbance; perioperative; neurophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Neuroinflammation is implicated in the development and maintenance of persistent pain states, but there is limited data linking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inflammatory mediators with neurophysiological pain processes in humans. Study I aimed to investigate whether there are coherent changes in CSF inflammation associated with central sensitization (CS), and to evaluate potential differences in CSF levels of inflammatory mediators between osteoarthritis (OA) patients with disabling pain and pain-free controls. 2. 7. Experimental Aspects on Chronic Whiplash-Associated Pain

    Författare :Dag Lemming; Björn Gerdle; Per Hansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neck injury; whiplash-associated disorders; chronic pain; central sensitization; pain assessment; drug challenges; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Chronic pain after whiplash trauma (chronic WAD) to the neck is still a common clinical problem in terms of pain management, rehabilitation and insurance claims. In contrast to the increased knowledge concerning mechanisms of chronic pain in general, no clinical guidelines exist concerning assessment, pain control and rehabilitation of patients with chronic WAD. Sammanfattning : The pain-system is a central mechanism in our life. Chronic pain is one of the major causes of impaired health-related quality of life according to the World Health Organization’s “Global Burden of Disease”-studies. Zygapophysial joint pain has been shown to account for the pain in 30% - 50% of patients with chronic pain. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Central pain in multiple sclerosis : clinical characteristics, sensory abnormalities and treatment

    Författare :Anders Österberg; Per Hansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In the present research programme the occurrence of pain in MS was investigated, with special emphasis on central pain (CP). Questionnaires were sent to all 429 patients with definite MS in the patient register at our neurology department. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Central nervous modulation of pain - a clinical and experimental study

    Författare :Christopher Lundborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :pain; head and neck; cisterna magna; baroreflex; noradrenaline; GDNF; co-cultured astrocytes; naloxon; osteoarthritis; calcium;

    Sammanfattning : This series of studies addresses several conceptual issues in modern pain therapy related to the contemporary understanding of mechanisms and modulators involved in the pain sensation. Novel invasive therapy for severe pain, neurogenic interactions, humoral regulators and cellular responses were studied. LÄS MER
