  1. 1. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption

    Författare :Kerstin Fredlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barley; wheat; rye; 65Zn; oats; zinc absorption; whole grains; InsP6; hydrothermal processing; calcium absorption; rice; radionuclide technique; 47Ca; extrinsic labelling; phytate; hydrothermal treatment; myo-inositol; calcium retention; whole-body counting;

    Sammanfattning : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 2. 2. Iron absorption and iron status related to diet : an experimental and epidemiological study

    Författare :Per Tidehag; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; iron status; iron absorption; bioavailability; dietary fiber; phytate; calcium; radioiron; diet;

    Sammanfattning : The absorption of iron from the diet is a major determinant of the iron status of an individual. Accurate measures of iron absorption are thus essential in the determination of the effects of diet composition on iron absorption and status. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals Optimal Conditions for Phytete Degradation and Myo-Inositol Formation. Effect on Phytase Activity and Mineral Absorption

    Författare :Eva-Lotta Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rye; rice; barley; wheat; myo-inositol; calcium absorption; phytase; hydrothermal processing; zinc absorption; phytate;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to optimise a hydrothermal process to degrade phytate (myo-inositol hexaphosphate), increase the level of free myo-inositol and preserve phytase activity in cereals with the purpose to achieve products with improved mineral bioavailability. Phytate is known to impair mineral absorption and myo-inositol is considered to be a semi-essential nutrient. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Multiphase models for freeze-thaw actions and mass transport in concrete hydraulic structures

    Författare :Daniel Eriksson; Anders Ansell; Richard Malm; Erik Nordström; Stefan Jacobsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Degradation; Hydraulic structures; Air-entrained concrete; Multiphase models; Multiphysics; Long-term moisture conditions; Freeze-thaw; Hysteresis; Absorption; Calcium leaching; Finite Element Method; Concrete Structures; Betongbyggnad;

    Sammanfattning : A crucial task for civil engineers is to make appropriate designs of new concrete structures and assessments of existing structures to ensure a long service life and sustainable use of the infrastructure. This doctoral thesis aims to increase the understanding of how advanced mathematical models can be used to describe phenomena and processes governing concrete degradation and thereby ultimately contribute to improving tools for design and assessments. 5. 5. Interaction between Calcium, Calciotropic Hormones and the Gastrin-ECL-cell Axis

    Författare :Rebecca Gagnemo Persson; Hälsofrämjande komplexa interventioner; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; rat; chicken; parathyroid gland; stomach; vitamin D; PTH; CT; calciotropic hormones; Gastrin; calcium; ECL cell; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : Calcium homeostasis involves mainly the interaction of PTH, vitamin D and CT. The stomach may be important for calcium homeostasis. Gastric acid is thought to mobilize calcium from the diet, thereby facilitating the absorption of calcium in the small intestines. LÄS MER
