  1. 26. Dental Health Care Cooperating with Primary Health Care as a Resource in Early Case Finding of Patients with Diabetes or Hypertension

    Författare :Sevek Engström; Kurt Svärdsudd; Christian Berne; Lars Gahnberg; Margareta Kristenson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Screening; dental care; primary health care; high blood pressure; high blood glucose; Family Medicine; Allmänmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives To investigate if there is an association between dental health status and high blood pressure, to test the effectiveness of screening for high blood pressure and high blood glucose performed by the dental health care in collaboration with primary health care and to investigate the direct costs for this type of screening organisation. Study population and methods In Paper I 54 subjects with known hypertension and 141 with a high blood pressure in the dental office were compared with matched controls. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Food intake, fibrinolysis and risk factors for cardiovascular disease : studies with special focus on plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1)

    Författare :Birgitta Sundell-Rånby; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Body build; diet; fiber; fibrinolysis; glucose; insulin; lipids; obesity; plasminogen activator inhibitor;

    Sammanfattning : Elevated plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) activity levels, hyperlipemia, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance and obesity, in particular central obesity, are all related to increased risk for the development of cardiovascular disease.Some risk factors are known to be and shown to be influenced by dietary habits. 3. 28. β-Adrenergic Signalling Through mTOR

    Författare :Jessica M. Olsen; Tore Bengtsson; Martin Klingenspor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glucose uptake; Brown adipose tissue; White adipose tissue; Skeletal muscle; Mechanistic target of rapamycin; Glucose transporter; Physiology; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Adrenergic signalling is part of the sympathetic nervous system and is activated upon stimulation by the catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine. This regulates heart rate, energy mobilization, digestion and helps to divert blood flow to important organs. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Developmental disturbances of the embryo in diabetic pregnancy

    Författare :Parri Wentzel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pregnancy; embryo; malformation; glucose; ROS; SOD; NAC; prosta- glandin; COX; COX inhibitor; gene expression; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal diabetes during pregnancy constitutes an increased risk for congenital malformation in the offspring. Previous studies have suggested that diabetic embryopathy is associated with an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as with a disturbance of prostaglandin (PG) metabolism. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Disturbed Islet Function and Alterations in Islet Protein Expression

    Författare :Henrik Ortsäter; Peter Bergsten; Franz Schuit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; islet; glucose; oleate; corticosterone; oxygen tension; insulin release; protein profiling; Clark-like electrodes; SELDI-TOF MS; PPI-B; 11β-HSD1; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic β-cells sense the concentration of glucose in the systemic circulation through metabolism of the sugar molecule. Failure to correlate the blood sugar concentration to an appropriate metabolic signal disrupts the function of the β-cell as a controller of glucose homeostasis and may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
