12. Effects of acute metabolic interventions on hemodynamics, endothelial function and forearm glucose uptake
Sammanfattning : Hyperinsulinemia is known to augment endothelium-dependent.vasodilation (EDV). If physiological levels of insulin lead to peripheral, vasodilation and if this vasodilation is an independent determinant of skeletal muscle glucose uptake is however under debate. LÄS MER
13. β-adrenergic regulation of glucose transporters
Sammanfattning : The transport of glucose across the plasma membrane is a fundamental mechanism to provide cells with its basic requirements for energy yielding processes. It is also vital for clearing glucose from blood into tissues, a process normally stimulated by the hormone insulin in mammals. LÄS MER
14. Microdialysis and Intensive Care. Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Microdialysis was used to monitor local concentrations of energy metabolites in different organs, and to study the pharmacokinetics of morphine over the blood-brain barrier in intact and injured brain tissue in conditions treated in the Intensive Care Unit. After major abdominal or thoracoabdominal surgery, postoperative thoracic epidural analgesia resulted in higher glycerol concentrations in the deltoid subcutaneous adipose tissue, implying increased lipolysis, on the third postoperative day as compared to intravenous infusion of morphine, possibly due to a locally increased sympathetic tone. 15. The role of bacterial endotoxin in the immature brain
Sammanfattning : Aim: Epidemiological evidence suggests that infections may increase the vulnerability of the immature brain to further insults. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) on hypoxic-ischemic (HI) injury in the immature rat brain, and to evaluate possible underlying mechanisms of increased sensitivity.
