Sammanfattning : Rashes in dermatological disease are often accompanied by subjective symptoms, but in some cases the subjective symptoms are the most prominent signs of skin disorder. This is the case in "stinger patients", who may have an obvious skin disease, but in other cases there are no clear-cut reasons for the symptoms. LÄS MER
7. Airway responsiveness and exhaled nitric oxide : Studies in asthma and Sjögren's syndrome
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, four different types of provocation agents: methacholine, adenosine, cold air and mannitol were used to study different aspects of the airway responsiveness profile in asthma and Sjögren's syndrome. Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) and markers of eosinophil activation, serum eosinophil peroxidase (S-EPO) and eosinophil cationic protein (S-ECP) were measured. LÄS MER
8. Immunological and inflammatory mechanisms in ocular allergy with special reference to vernal keratoconjunctivitis : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Ocular allergy encompasses a wide range of conditions, most of which implicate IgE in the pathogenesis. In contrast to the benign nature of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (SAC), the less common chronic eye diseases vernal and atopic keratoconjunctivitis (VKC and AKC) are severe and debilitating disorders. Current hand eczema was analyzed in 142 wet hospital workers from this cohort with respect to the etiologic importance of irritants, allergens and contact urticants. LÄS MER
10. Studies on neuroimmune interactions in allergic inflammation with focus on neurotrophins
Sammanfattning : Allergic asthma is a chronic airway disease characterized by an eosinophilic inflammation, bronchoconstriction, increased mucus production and bronchial hyperreactivity. The disease involves several mediators and cell types and is associated with a Th2-mediated immune response. Stress is a factor reported to deteriorate the allergic inflammation. LÄS MER
