1. Compact Relativistic Matter Shells with Massless and Charged Particles
Sammanfattning : The Vlasov model is a matter model that is widely used in physics. In the context of astrophysics and cosmology it describes an ensemble of self gravitating, collisionless particles. These particles can be interpreted as for example ions, stars, or galaxies. LÄS MER
2. Some Cases of Kudla’s Modularity Conjecture for Unitary Shimura Varieties
Sammanfattning : A common theme of the thesis is the interplay of symmetry and rigidity, which is a general phenomenon in mathematics. Symmetry is a notion related to the degree to which an object remains unchanged under transformations, and rigidity is a notion that in terms of physics can be thought of as a lack of freedom, which leads to stronger properties of an object than we normally expect. 3. Position Estimation and Tracking in Colloidal Particle Microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents methods for estimating the locations (including depth) of spherical colloidal particles in images recorded in video microscopy. Understanding the behavior of colloidal interactions and diffusion is of crucial importance in a vast number of areas. LÄS MER
4. Resonance-enhanced Second Harmonic Generation from spherical microparticles in aqueous suspension
Sammanfattning : Second harmonic generation (SHG) is a nonlinear optical effect sensitive to interfaces between materials with inversion symmetry. It is used as an effective tool for detection of the adsorption of a substance to microscopic particles, cells, liposomes, emulsions and similar structures, surface analysis and characterization of microparticles. 5. A Trilogy of Mass A=61 : Superdeformed Structures, Exotic Decay, and Isospin Symmetry
Sammanfattning : Three nuclei with mass number A=61 have been studied using four fusion-evaporation experiments carried out at the Oak Ridge, Argonne and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories. Normally deformed states in 61Ga were for the first time ever explored and in addition the experimental knowledge of the mirror nucleus 61Zn was extended. LÄS MER
